And finally, we get the spotlight on Dicta Striker - Soccer Boy. The horse whose run was so beautiful and intense it was nicknamed the Bullet Shot.

While small at birth, Soccer Boy soon made waves by winning his debut by 9 lengths, then following up by winning as a 2 year old by 8 lengths in the G1 Hanshin Sansai Stakes( now known as the G1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies). However, the junior champion soon ran into a string of bad luck - finishing third in the Yayoi Sho, having to miss the Satsuki Sho due to injury, then placing 4th and a dismal 15th in the NHK Hai and Derby respectively. However, Soccer Boy then found a resurgence, beating Yaeno Muteki at the Chunichi Sports Hai, then cementing his legend by taking on two Derby winners (Merry Nice and Sirius Symboli) at the 1988 Hakodate Kinen, where he would set a record that stood for 37 years and only be broken this year. Following that, Soccer Boy would win the 1988 Mile CS by four lengths, and move on to take on the best of Japan in the 1988 Arima Kinen while on a three graded win streak.

Soccer Boy's descendants include Narita Top Road and Hishi Miracle. Soccer Boy also had a full sister, Golden Sash, who bred with Sunday Silence to give birth to Stay Gold. Funnily enough, Soccer Boy and Stay Gold apparently hated each other after Stay Gold retired to the same ranch.

Belno and Komiyama seem pretty close this episode despite being on different teams. As it turns out, Oguri's assistant trainer and Tamamo's assistant trainer were friends in real life. The talk about Tamamo's diet is a reference to an actual conversation they had prior to the Arima Kinen.

Since we're in the source material corner, what Tama's trainer said at the end of that conversation was what IRL Tama's trainer said [manga/IRL/the damn eating competition in S1] after that advice caused Oguri to win and Tama to lose.
