So what popular harem anime's have a male protag who's presented as an emotionally damaged underdog who's friend's sexually harass people and they defend them in what the show presents as a very serious and justified moment?

Be specific.

The idea of sexually harassing someone or beating someone in anime being played for comedy, both male and female oriented, is common. What is not common is the context and seriousness and righteousness this one has.

Your standard male MC harem anime has the MC being a pretty empty personalized nice guy who's always saving women from being sexually harassed to make you want to think he's a nice guy without having any real character development. With the bonus "I saved a slave by buying them and freeing them but now their my companion" thrown in.

Even "harem in another world" has more nuance somehow and that show is one alot of Reddit would prolly instantly have issues with.

Be specific.

As I said, the tropes are different because this is appealing more to the female side of the wish fulfillment, so there wouldn't be a specific match to a male MC

What is not common is the context and seriousness and righteousness this one has

nuance

I don't need nuance because

  1. It's a fictional cartoon world where that kind of thing which would be sexual harassment in our world is treated as a goofy character quirk; as you point out yourself this happens constantly in many romcom anime. I'm not changing my standards on this just because it's gender flipped this time

  2. The "righteousness" comes from the boss attempting to fire someone not for sexual harassment, but because she accidentally caused MC to get coffee on her shirt

Not to mention handsome boss man doesn't appear to understand basic human events like having clothes get wet and he's doing this as some sort of half-flirtatious play to make MC act more assertively. This whole situation is ridiculous. It's not more serious than any other usual seasonal slop.

"It's not more serious than any other usual seasonal slop." is a flat out lie. Watch her walk uncomfortable through the office again. Then slowly be crushed under the pressure of confrontation and insecurity. That's played 100% seriously as is the speech.

The comedy at the end is specifically to defuse the huge amount of tension the show has just built up.

EDIT: Ironically After writing my comment I removed my first sentence because I felt like the other commentor would use it to ignore the rest of what I wrote. I was too slow and they had already responded....doing exactly what I thought they would. So I'm just leave this here to inform people of my edit so its not an accidental ninja edit or leave their comment floating seemingly out of context.

They did exactly what I thought and I have zero desire to continue this conversation because of that. I would call the massive ignoring/downplaying of the serious tone of her walking through the office in inappropriate stained top severely uncomfortably to be borderline misogynistic. That is definitely way more serious than your average harem male MC anime. Those are typically massive power fantasies with a bland "nice" MC devoid of any real flaws or concerns.

Highly specific? It's generic wish fulfillment stuff. Hot guys, "relatable" flaws, a moment of surface level emotional strength, etc.

You're asking which series has an insecure, male MC with self-esteem and confidence issues that then suddenly starts acting in charge with a forceful personality, but reverts to being mild-mannered and-or timid, and is set up as being the "average guy" with "no special skills, athletics, or abilities" and yes, somehow, attracts the attention of every attractive female?

I dunno, maybe fucking every single one of them? Every single god damned show with a male MC who has a harem is set up almost exactly the same way. From Sword Art Online, to Isekai trash, to Dandadan. ALL of the male characters are typically depicted as losers who are not especially smart, or attractive, or athletic, but they will, sometimes, have a backbone, and it instantly makes every girl within 30,000 miles wet their panties in horniness and throw themselves at him to be his breedable sex slave.

But this show is somehow bad for doing the same thing? Piss off.

Sword Art Online he always had a backbone from the very beginning. He was just trying to fly under the Radar. Not the best written show but your specific example is not an issue with it.

DanDanDAn similarly has shown since the beginning that he is a beaten down loser with a real self confidence issue. But he always did try to buck up. Even in the first episode. He's there ignoring the bullying of him and she steps in to stop it for a bit subtly and he actively pursues her to talk about his nerdy interest. He's uncomfortable, shy, insecure, but he still takes the initiative and gets up to go talk to her. She gives him a huge dressing down when she snaps and then apologizes trying to give an olive branch by saying she doesn't believe in olive branches but ghosts are real. And he laughs directly at her telling her there is no such thing as ghosts. And them going back and froth about it leads to the events launching the entire series.

That's his literal initial characterization. He's always had a backbone. He's always gone back and forth with her. I feel like you need to go rewatch episode 1 lol.

So piss off yourself.
