What garbage. Barely made it to the end of the episode.
Let me start by saying there is nothing wrong with the adaptation that I can see, it's all source material problems.
Free Guy-esque story: obnoxiously blatant, wink wink nudge nudge references to incredibly popular and well-known characters, and gamer lingo thrown in for spice. A dog named Bowser? That name only means something in the west. A blond guy named Link? Gag. I seriously doubt that the author is actually a gamer. The story reeks of surface level research to make normies feel included.
And what the author didn't learn from Google searching, she clearly found from watching Feminist Frequency. Because it's all gag-inducing "fight the patriarchy", "all men are pigs", "yay women!" trash. Turning her very obviously coffee stained tank top (not her underwear! But a tank top!) into a lecture about making people feel uncomfortable, and throwing in a "this dude is a total sleaze" set up with the lights off and blinds closed room? This isn't the fucking 1970's.
Save your brain and skip this. Especially if you actually play video games and know more than Mario and Zelda exist.
What a waste of a good cast.
Edit!: And I even forgot all the other checklist cliches like "sickly kid who got into games cause they were always inside", the hyper Americanism that is a coffee shop 🎶where everybody knows your name🎶, the coffee accident in and of itself, "make the coffee, woman" (even though the person who's supposed to do it is late), nepo-baby, over attached spouse. If you hate it, this author probably included it.
