And it is so japanese in styling and plot.

The whole idea that a kid would become CEO is ludicrous. That isn't how publicly traded corporations work. Certainly not in the states. It would only make sense if it was privately owned. Even then... saying that kind of stuff out loud is an extreme faux pas in american culture.

I assume that was the intent. But man it weirds me out. It is easier to let it slide when it is a Japanese show.

I think the idea is that she'd become CEO when her dad retires.

Right... but that isn't really a thing for publicly traded corporations. That would be for privately owned companies. So he (or she) would be a president or owner, not a CEO.

When did they say it was a publicly traded company? Even if it was, that doesn't mean that the 'family trust' can't hold a significant (even a majority) stake.

Children of founders taking over their parents' companies isn't unusual at all.

Family-controlled firms now make up 19% of the companies in the Fortune Global 500, which tracks the world's largest firms by sales.

The company is named after her (her family);

I assumed the dad was owner AND ceo, so he can do pretty much whatever he wants!

Yea, but "CEO" typically means you were voted into that position by the board.

The board can also be family-controlled.

A publicly listed company can be controlled by 51% shares owned by the father. Who can gift his control of shares to anyone he wishes, after retiring. It's about percentage of ownership.
