Oh, I was thinks they were going there as a grown Luna’s teachers after a time skip. But them going there to learn magic themselves probably makes more sense.

My theory is that it is a move to get access to the implied "Secret Magic Library" that comes with the position of being the advisor to the throne.

Like, get into such a political position to play the long game...
