Somehow this episode managed to bring one of the most grusome deaths (Dorel's) I've seen recently and follow up one of the most wholesome scenes (Luna walking towards his mother) I've seen recently, and it doesn't seem to be out of place.

This show is too good to not have a season 2. And honestly I can also see a video game adaptation of this, like an action RPG or even soulslike, given that so far we've seen Alicia fight uphill battles against 3 bosses.

Edit: typo

Season 2 is confirmed!

https://x.com/SugoiLITE/status/1967867040020173274

Edit: I haven't found any other source yet, but it seemed the guy is often a reliable leaker/anime news.

Edit2: it's official now!

They're as close to official confirmation as you can get without being official. Extremely reliable.

u/Mundology Sep 17 '25

Let's go! Ending their adventure with such a big lore drop would have been too cruel. Hopefully they maintain the gorgeous animation artstyle and animation quality.

the gorgeous animation artstyle

I don't know whose idea it was to make this look like a cross between a classic fantasy show and a more modern one, but that was a stroke of genius. The blurry flashbacks, the cel-like outlines, the backgrounds, it's like nostalgia hitting you in the face. I loved it so much.

1

u/Zaemz Sep 27 '25

I loved the "raw" look of the show and it's the first thing that made me enthusiastic about watching it in the beginning. I actually got close to my TV and examined some paused scenes to try and see if it was actually penciled and penned on celluloids lol. I was slightly bummed to find out it was drawn with contemporary digital methods, but not surprised given how much more time, effort and money it would have cost. I suppose I was shallowly kinda looking forward to being impressed by that effort haha

It's a wonderfully animated production! I appreciate the artistic choices the director and crew made, and think the camera jitter, film grain, and all that was well done.

Omg this is incredible news - I need more! Atleast the webtoon that someone mentioned last week can fill in the gap somewhat until S2 is released

1

u/Kessarean Sep 19 '25

Oh thank goodness

This show is too good to not have a season 2.

The after credits scene has me interested.

60

u/good_wolf_1999 Sep 17 '25

I really hope that was a S2 tease and not them shamelessly telling people “Curious about this? Go buy the manga now!”

7

u/Falsus Sep 17 '25

Second season is confirmed!

8

u/Resident-Lecture-621 Sep 17 '25

I read there's like webtoon and a manga, with the manga being the superior of the two, but I can't find the manga anywhere. Would rather read it than wait two years for the shit.

2

u/ball_fondlers Sep 17 '25

I wish - I’ve only been able to find shitty scans of the manga. The webtoon is solid, but it’s FAR behind even the show

36

u/melindypants https://myanimelist.net/profile/melindypants Sep 17 '25

Right?! And wtf happened to Alicia? She got fixed even further using Hidean parts? Just look her ears and nose! I need more!!

34

u/_WrongKarWai Sep 17 '25

looks like it or some sort of disguise to fit in

21

u/Mistral-Fien Sep 17 '25

I think it's a disguise to make her look Hidean.

Dorel's master has a bunch of spare eyes, Clevatess very much doesn't, not even in his fluffy form

5

u/FelixAndCo Sep 17 '25

I'm still interested in the continuation, but I'm disappointed they seem to somehow have been able to force in a high school arc, one of my least favourite anime tropes.

2

u/Resident-Lecture-621 Sep 17 '25

Lmfao I did not even think about this at all

2

u/BosuW Sep 17 '25

Somehow this feels like editor convinced the mangaka because "trust me bro this is what sells today" but mangaka Will find a way to make it go off the rails anyway

So many perfectly good stories are absolutely wrecked by S2 "Go to school" plots. I loathe it but I will check out S2 if we see it in probably 2027.

3

u/Aliensinnoh Sep 17 '25

lol I came to this thread while the credits were rolling, saw this comment, and looked up just as the after credits scene began. I’m wondering if we’re getting a big time skip with Luna more grown up in the next arc. I didn’t think with the timing that we’d actually get to see Klen’s dream of having his puppet king come true, but maybe we will.

Drel was such a menacing villain i couldn't believe they killed him off

77

u/melindypants https://myanimelist.net/profile/melindypants Sep 17 '25

I was actually a bit sad that he died because he was really interesting but boy his death was gruesome af

103

u/biskutgoreng Sep 17 '25

It was clear that he was not a bad guy during the flashback, no jealousy or such pushing him towards evil. Man was corrupted by Vordin. It shows in his fights with Eslinn and Alicia that he respects his enemies and fights them honourably

50

u/melindypants https://myanimelist.net/profile/melindypants Sep 17 '25

Absolutely! Just goes to show how ruthless the Dark Beast Lord(s) are, they will dispose of you as soon as you are rendered "useless" - I'm interested to see how things will go further with Klen in this aspect as well since clearly he is showing some empathy (if that's even the right word for it lol)

25

u/RealMr_Slender Sep 17 '25

I feel like Clevatess will develop a "friendship" with Alicia overtime, where she keeps him grounded and avoids him getting too aloof

15

u/melindypants https://myanimelist.net/profile/melindypants Sep 17 '25

I could see that too - like a relationship of mutual respect and her as the liaison for humans

12

u/mekerpan Sep 17 '25

The fact that Alicia was able to convince Klen to reconsider (by forcing him to truly consider his feelings towards Luna) was pretty amazing. Klen does actually feel a quasi-parental sense of kinship/responsibility towards Luna (even if Klen will continue to try to frame his interest as "selfish").

6

u/Ill_Act_1855 Sep 17 '25

Presumably it's to make sure his dark ichor is kept intact, since once Drel explodes the ichor seems to travel off, probably returning to Vordein. Dark Ichor isn't indestructible and continuing to fight and take damage would presumably whittle it down bit by bit (even if it can probably generate back over time if he wins) so once the odds looked bad for Drell Vordein decided to just cut his losses and kill Drell to take back the dark ichor rather than risk it on a losing battle and lose strength that would take a decent amount of time to recover at the very least

2

u/edwardjhahm https://myanimelist.net/profile/lolmeme69 Sep 18 '25

Agreed. He was such an interesting villain that I hoped we'd get to see more fighting between him and Alicia in the future.

2

u/polycontrale Sep 18 '25

It was pretty awesome.

17

u/_WrongKarWai Sep 17 '25

Lizard Vordein got squished

4

u/PM_ME_AWESOME_SONGS Sep 17 '25

I thought he was going to die because he went through this monstrous transformation that Resident Evil villains generally go through.

2

u/_Kaj Sep 20 '25

Vordin was the menacing villain all along, we'll see more of him, I'm sure of it.

1

u/gh0stwriter1234 Sep 18 '25

That's because drel was actually a pawn for the real big bad...

1

u/BrokenDusk Sep 20 '25

And he got such a gruesome brutal death he deserved ! I do like he didn't get away from this and got his due . It would be pretty BS if he just run off here and Clevatess let him

40

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 Sep 17 '25 edited Sep 18 '25

Yeah, we've barely explored the world of Clevatess, and I really want more of Alicia and Klen, because their relationship was so enjoyable to watch. It'd be just sad if the show ended after one season.

And even though we don't have a second season announced yet, but I think that the after credits scene in today's episode pretty much confirms it (plus, I've seen leaks that it's already in production), so I'm pretty sure that we'll get continuation in the future.

18

u/melindypants https://myanimelist.net/profile/melindypants Sep 17 '25

This really felt like a prologue for me. It was incredible every step of the way and I'm looking forward to the release date for S2 - I just hope it's not like a huge amount of time

3

u/FG205 Sep 18 '25

It seriously felt I was watching a full length novel like Lord of the Rings. That's how big this world feels.

20

u/Suspicious_Deal4412 Sep 17 '25

The after credits scene definitely setting up for a season 2, fingers crossed.

24

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii Sep 17 '25

one of the most wholesome scenes (Luna walking towards his mother)

Imagine if he got hungry and walked to Nell instead; Talk about anticlimactic!

16

u/Slaccnknack102 Sep 17 '25

And honestly I can also see a video game adaptation of this, like an action RPG or even soulslike, given that so far we've seen Alicia fight uphill battles against 3 bosses.

Now think about it, Alicia is playing darksoul in her irl lol and she would fit to be a darksoul mc too

6

u/BosuW Sep 17 '25

Alicia is the rare optimist Dark Souls player

No matter how many times she gets her ass beat she always gets back up with absolute confidence that this is the path she was meant to walk

4

u/Northern_Ontario Sep 17 '25

Don't you dare go hollow.

6

u/UsernameAvaylable Sep 17 '25

The death animation was like AAA tier, like some of the best 80s animated creature art.

6

u/seledri_kerikil Sep 17 '25

This show is too good to not have a season 2.

Personally for me, its one of the best show this season. I've been enjoying it from the start till finish. Really hoping there's a second season in the making, especially with that teaser at the end.

6

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin Sep 17 '25

The payoff for the reunion of mother and son was beautiful.

3

u/FelixAndCo Sep 17 '25

Kind of forgot gruesome deaths was the thing of this anime after the previous relatively chill episode. They certainly ended it with a bang in that department.

3

u/Made_Bail Sep 17 '25

Luna walking to her Mom was just so incredible and wholesome. I love that this show understands that there has to be a balance between the dark and the wholesome. Many dark shows and books *cough*Blood-C*cough* don't understand that delineation.

2

u/_WrongKarWai Sep 17 '25

Same I was thinking I watched Berserk, Basilisk, Shigurui, Ninja Scroll and don't remember a scene like this lol.

Watching them be magical sempai and kouhai walking into a castle is a chef's kiss lol

2

u/was_fired Sep 18 '25

It actually got me invested in the walking over scene. I kept waiting to see if they would have it end happily or have something absolutely random kill them for shock value, and I realized I REALLY wanted it to just end up being wholesome. It's rare for me to end up sitting there rooting for an outcome like that while I'm unsure if it will happen.

2

u/gh0stwriter1234 Sep 18 '25

A souls like would be badass... totally would be down for that. Actually a modification of a soulslike, instead of dying and the scenario resetting you should just have to wait a bit for your body it reassemble... then carry on.

1

u/zenithfury Sep 18 '25

It was a great scene, because it shows how impressed Clevatess was at seeing the baby stand up on its own, and he probably likened that to humanity as a whole, perhaps giving him some hope for it.

1

u/BrokenDusk Sep 20 '25

Drel death was so amazing hardcore and so brutal he was just unmade to the last particles !!! I gasped during that scene

1

u/raidensnakeezio Sep 21 '25

I can't help but notice that the story, or specifically its development thus far is very reminiscent of the best hits of classic fantasy RP(V)Gs. For me, Ogre Tactics, Fire Emblem, and FF Tactics come to mind (Shoutout to Symphony of War for being a modern love-letter to them!). A country in chaos. An international conspiracy. A plot that chugs along at 90mph - there's no need for side-quests, as each task within the quests in the main questline is so chock full of nuance and significance. In this style of RPG, there's no real establishment of a starting village where you first register as a starry eyed G-class adventurer, you're thrown straight into the action. Choices matter and permadeath looms. The only other manga/anime I know to have done this is Stone Ocean.

If I had to make a video game adaptation, I'd have the tutorial/prologue area be set in Alicia and Margo's cottage - the player gets to run around the field freely and swing a sword around (Somewhat similar to Kingdom Come Deliverance). Maybe there's a slime/goblin/boar hunt quest. The section ends with a sparring match against Margo, where you're expected to use intermediate techniques (special maneuvers on the controller which are explained only in the physical pamphlet) against him. If the player manages to defeat Margo (emptying his health bar = knocking him down on the ground), Alicia gets a stat boost/xp boost/skill points/extra starting (unique) perks

The first "real" quest would be with the other 13 Heroes. Alicia+co. are hiking up the mountain, and with her Regalia, the player gets to see her swing her sword much more fluidly, the attacks reach longer, and the damage numbers are dastardly high (Similar to Symphony of the Night). Then of course, Clevatess defeats Alicia, and we have our stereotypical prisoner start with the Ravens, where the game begins in earnest. I would strongly want the player to be able to "defeat" Clevatess during their first encounter - this is specifically aimed towards the "no-hit speedrun" category of players. Clevatess gets 4+1 phases. During the 5th phase, the player is eventually debuffed to oblivion, and Clevatess's attacks become extremely unfair, coming at Alicia with blinding speed from all angles, at perfect meaty timing. However, depending on which phase of the initial Clevatess fight they get to, they get an increasing degree of stat rewards and unique starting perks, which Clevatess grants to Alicia as his respect for her increases. Not only will more scratches appear on Klen's horn (or other parts of his profile), there may be deeper story implications as Klen starts off with deeper trust and faith in Alicia's skills and resolve. (We'll see how the story continues to play out)

I guess one possibly unique thing that would differentiate such a game from other RPGs is how Alicia basically skips to Lv70-80. Drel is clearly in the mid-90s to110. (I'm guessing Clevatess, and the other Lords, or the eventual strongest-in-the-universe beings are close to Lv200) Despite this, Alicia has to deal with a horde of bandits from the get-go. She has no armor and must deal with the situation using Lv1-7 weapons. I suppose this would make it like Ninja Gaiden. I suppose Act II would be quite interesting as well, where the Sword Saint-Hero has to learn magic from the fundamentals even though she's already ~Lv70.
