Maybe he's just into furries.

216

u/Lodju https://myanimelist.net/profile/Lodju Sep 17 '25

He is sort of a furry himself.

85

u/Kartoffelkamm Sep 17 '25

Closer to a reverse furry, but yeah.

55

u/Earlier-Today Sep 17 '25

Would that be a skinny?

45

u/BosuW Sep 17 '25

Furry slur for normal human just dropped

11

u/FlameDragoon933 Sep 17 '25

Hairless ape

I truly hope I was here to witness the birth of a meme that spreads

1

u/PunningLynguist Sep 20 '25

I think that's Dorel now after Vordein discarded him

1

u/Fabio_sj Oct 01 '25

Thats a twink

15

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii Sep 17 '25

The other Dark Beast Lords call him a Humanies.

252

u/SpikeRosered Sep 17 '25

My guess is that at this academy you have to be of certain high birth and she's going to supposedly be a relative of the king.

I am personally shocked that this story is taking a "magic school" turn.

u/_WrongKarWai Sep 17 '25

Mashle time lol

98

u/SpikeRosered Sep 17 '25

Klen will turn her regalia into a magic wand and she will be "The Water Magician!"

u/kwokinator https://anilist.co/user/kwokinator Sep 17 '25

I'm ready for Abrasive Jet 65535.

29

u/redlaWw Sep 17 '25

IIRC he uses exact powers of 2 for his jets, rather than Mersenne numbers, so that would be Abrasive Jet 65536.

9

u/Ratemytinder22 Sep 17 '25

That show had potential for the first 2 episodes, then crashed and burned so hard lol

I was totally ok with it being 12 episodes of slice of life learning magic and surviving/growing. Peak was talking to the damn dragon.

All of that for literally nothing haha

It's a subverted Isekai. The MC's in on the joke: the whole thing is a sly satire on the genre, so everything's a trope. He calls it out, too, multiple times when he treats everyone he meets as a trope.

If you think the people are real, then he's a bit of a dick. But it's a generic Isekai, and he knows he's in one. The people aren't real. Ceci n’est pas une pipe.

5

u/Ratemytinder22 Sep 17 '25

I wouldn't really call it satire. Sure, the MC makes those remarks, but at this point, I think every isekai MC does (especially every villainess one).

Satire would be obvious cliche jokes/characters but it's clear the show isn't doing that. If it is trying to do that, it's not good at that either lol.

The writing is just bad and clunky, the animation is borderline bad, the story is boring....I stick to my original comment

3

u/prefectname Sep 17 '25

You’re correct that it’s not really a satire. It’s a parody of the genre. The fact that you’ve seen those same silly plot points and gags is the point. They’re exaggerating the tropes on purpose. Like the Scary Movie series. Not everyone’s cup of tea for sure and I’m not a huge fan of too many parodies myself. Parodies are kinda “bad and clunky” on purpose. That’s the joke.

u/Ratemytinder22 Sep 17 '25 edited Sep 17 '25

Huh? It is absolutely not a parody either. I can not think of a single instance of comic relief, comedic setup or reference to another isekai (which would be the main driving point of a parody).

I really do not see how the main character making random quips of "This must be the <insert RPG/isakai trope> part" 2 or 3 times an episode makes it a parody, or even a comedic isekai anime.

You could borderline say his spell chants are a joke, except they explain and show why they are the way they are (and not in a haha, that's funny way) in EP 1 or 2.

Again, even if what you say is true, it's so poorly done that it has gone so far over my head that I would have no chance to catch it.

Edit: Just to add, this thread is from 5 episodes in and not a single, solitary comment even mentions humor/satire/parady/comedic/w.e. as being part of the show. So if it's supposed to be there, no one else is catching it either https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1mhaec1/what_are_your_guys_thought_on_the_water_magician/

3

u/prefectname Sep 17 '25 edited Sep 17 '25

It’s absolutely a parody, just one you don’t enjoy. That’s fine.

I can’t stand the “Scary Movie” or “Epic Movie” parodies. But I liked “Not Another Teen Movie” a lot back in the day. Parodies are probably one of the most subjective forms of comedy.

But it kinda seems like you wanna argue no matter what. So I’ll pass on that. You smart. Me dumb. You won Reddit.

Edit: They were talking about “Mashle” originally, the magic-school/OP-protagonist anime. Not “The Water Magician” anime. I’ll call that my bad.

2

u/prefectname Sep 17 '25

Never watched The Water Magician because it looked very generic. Even the name is so generic that I didn’t even think of that show since “The Water Magician” is as bland as it gets. Thought we were still talking about Mashle lol.

My bad. Thanks for letting me know I was right for not bothering with that show.

"The Water Magician!"

guaranteed 1000x better than the Water Magician that also aired this season.

2

u/BosuW Sep 17 '25

Heroic Magic: Yuusha Punch!

2

u/_WrongKarWai Sep 18 '25

biceps maho

25

u/melindypants https://myanimelist.net/profile/melindypants Sep 17 '25

I feel like that wouldn't matter since she basically saved the entire nation lol I thought it was to heal her deeper wounds further, like Klen had to do with the troll for Nelluru.

7

u/RealMr_Slender Sep 17 '25

probably also to allow Alicia to use magic since Hideans were said to be more inclined to use it

8

u/melindypants https://myanimelist.net/profile/melindypants Sep 17 '25

Inclined but that doesn't mean they are the only ones capable...plus it's been forbidden this whole time in their land - just seems weird. I guess we will find out in S2!

6

u/gh0stwriter1234 Sep 18 '25

That's exactly what I was thinking... probably no shortage of royal hidenean body parts lying around for klen to patch her up with.

21

u/Etiennera Sep 17 '25

School arcs and tournament arcs are definitely low points for me in anime. Judging by this first season I don't expect something that fits the mold so much that it's bad.

26

u/Ill_Act_1855 Sep 17 '25

been reading the manga, the next arc is really good, so I wouldn't worry about that

3

u/edwardjhahm https://myanimelist.net/profile/lolmeme69 Sep 18 '25

I just trust in the author. The anime has been a banger thus far - I'm sure they wouldn't go for something that low.

5

u/fractal_magnets Sep 17 '25 edited Sep 22 '25

Hiding that she's the hero would be reason enough

1

u/Queue_Jumping_Quack Sep 18 '25

Yeah... I was not expecting a "magic school arc" next... flashbacks of Maou 2099. Hopefully this doesn't mark a complete and permanent tone shift to the series.

1

u/vRiise Sep 18 '25

Aren't Hideans (with talent) only able to use magic without use of crystals?

1

u/nofaxxspitintruflego Feb 19 '26

i mean gotta say whilst i agree with u... it was kind of foreshadowed A LOT XD

95

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii Sep 17 '25

"I just like messing with her" - Clevatess

61

u/Lunchb0xx87 Sep 17 '25

she cute tho

32

u/Taiyoryu Sep 17 '25

My guess, they're going somewhere that only allows Hideneans. Maybe a magic academy where Clen will teach Luna. I dunno.

2

u/hat1324 Sep 23 '25

I have the feeling there was a time skip. As in enough of a time skip that Alicia should be older

1

u/Twin_Hilton Sep 19 '25

Either that, or he’s trying to hide her identity as a hero and keep a low profile

19

u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime Sep 17 '25

There's no such thing as demi humans in this setting - they're all different types of humans.

13

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 Sep 17 '25

I don't know, but I really want to know, so give me the second season as soon as possible xD

9

u/_WrongKarWai Sep 17 '25

so she can join him in cosplay

8

u/OldInstruction5368 Sep 17 '25

Technically she was already a demi-human. All the 'near-human' tribes of this world are various species of humanoid and not "true humans."

It's just the plains people that Drell and the Spear Hero are from are the ones that look the most traditionally human.

As for why he chose Hiden... IDK, but I'm going to go with the darkest explanation: there were plenty of Hiden corpses lying around the ruins of their capital. Just as he combined Nelluru with that troll, Clevy-chan just grabbed one of many 'conveniently available' Hiden corpses to hide Alicia's identity.

Not sure why they need a disguise, but the "Hero Alicia" was from the same stock as Drel, right? She's got to be pretty famous now for killing that monster of a man and ending the war, so disguising her as a different race would go a long way towards keeping her incognito.

3

u/gh0stwriter1234 Sep 18 '25

This makes a lot of sense also, in addition to her having no magical ability before she perhaps gains that from having a mostly hidenean body as well.

1

u/edwardjhahm https://myanimelist.net/profile/lolmeme69 Sep 18 '25

I assumed it's less a mix and more a very well crafted costume or something. I agree with your take on keeping a low profile.

3

u/JzanderN Sep 17 '25

Because she looks cute with a button nose.

2

u/Divinicus1st Sep 17 '25

"Disguise"? I would say "transform" would be more in character.

2

u/gh0stwriter1234 Sep 18 '25

I am guessing he repaired her body with Hidenean parts similar to what occurred with Nelluru .... so that she can use magic.

Oh I was wondering about the brown nose thing…

1

u/Dodolos Sep 19 '25

It's more like she's disguised as a different type of demi-human, really. None of the humanoids are "true humans" apparently

1

u/vumhuh Sep 19 '25

Wdym? Did i miss something?

1

u/HugeRichard11 https://myanimelist.net/profile/CostCurl Sep 20 '25

After credit scene you see Alicia with a different nose meaning she has become a different race or something like that.

1

u/vumhuh Sep 21 '25

Oh my bad i always skip ed and op so i didn't know
