My man was developing magic based genetics and medicine and people saw him as a spawn of a devil and burned him alive.

magic based genetics

That's not what the title of his book suggests. It looks like he was studying the connection between genetics and talent for magic.

I can't help to wonder if Monica wasn't a product of his genetic research, considering how talented she is at magic and the lack of a mother in her backstory.
