I actually loved that moment at the very start of the episode, though I almost forgot about it amid all the other FANTASTIC shit that happened this week. The Prince watching our doofus country boy and thinking about what scheme he must be part of, then watching him accidentally singe his hair making barbecue instead of anything nefarious. We cut back to him just before the OP and he has this more relaxed smile on his face, and I read that as him realizing he needs to loosen up, that he's suspecting *everyone* around him, and that might be unhealthy.

He's right, though. Monica's not an assassin, but she is a spy, and she's right under his nose.

Well he already figured out she's either a spy, a bodyguard, or an assassin, and I think at this point he's ruled out assassin. But my guy was suspecting even Glenn at this stage, and I cannot think of a more pure golden retriever of a lad in this show than Glenn.

It hasn't been said directly in the anime yet, but in the light novel it was literally in the first chapters: Glenn is Louis's apprentice.

And Louis specifically sent him to the academy at the same time as Monica, because Glenn's apprenticeship is a known fact. And the prince already knew that his broken brooch with defense and tracking functions was made by the Barrier Mage, Louis.

So the prince looked at the papers about the new students and immediately threw Monica out of his mind, and turned his attention to Glenn.
