I can appreciate that ideal in theory But.....
In a society like that, as explained, they would not give 2 hoots about anyone not in their domain or beholden to them. Especially if they MURDERED a family member. Don't ever think nameless faces matter to even someone nowadays if it meant their own kin. Your neighbor would sacrifice your whole town if it saved his/her kid.
Also, that disaster would immediately be mediated by the king way before it actually happened. I would guess that little hoe's family would have to give up some land and other and lose a TON of social standing.
