No, she was standing there waiting for a whole goddamn week. The only reason I hadn't expected her to still be there was because I somehow assumed Monica had finished her reply before she was poisoned.

I assumed that Monica sent her back and asked her to come back X days later while she mulled over how to phrase her letter.

No her exact word were: "I'm going to write a thank you letter to Sir Louise, so please wait a moment."

Yeah, but in the very next scene she was elsewhere entirely wondering what to write in the letter so it's clear she couldn't come up with anything at the time. The normal thing to do in that situation would be to send the maid back for the time being and have her come by to pick up the letter later.
