Not sure if they actually do it or if it’s only a threat

They probably did it but I think the prince exaggerated worst case scenario. If the capital guards don't get out there in time, and if there is a dragon attack while they are unguarded. The king probably doesn't want to lose a tax sorce because of squabbling nobles.

The fallen house will probably have to join the first prince's faction if they weren't already in it. They might lose some trade partners and stuff like that in the meantime as well.

She definitely sent a report about it to her father, but he ain't going to mess up the area of one of his vassals just over this. That would hurt himself more in the long run. Especially since it seems Caroline's family was on the wealthier side. But it is definitely going to land her family in a really rough spot politically. Ain't going to be fun to be her father when it is time to for some negotiations with count Kerbeck lmao.

I guess there could be an expensive renegotiation of the protection the Nortons offer on the table. Or at least they delay their retreat until troops from the capital have arrived.

Or could send Louis ahead to hold the fort until the troops get there, ensuring there's no risk to citizens but putting her house even more in trouble because now a vindictive sage is pissed at them lol.

Going through the proper channel to get Louis’ ( or any other sage) help would take time ( as we could infer from Episode 1 ). You can try begging him for help in private, but the odds already weren’t good he would come running before you tried to poison his colleague…

The idea would be it’s the king deploying Louis as an advance force to hold until the troops get there, as they mentioned royal forces anyway and he’s probably one of the few who could get it on short notice. The noble house would as you say have a very bad time requesting his help on their own lol.

What's funny is, Louis has probably already had to report to the king that he picked Monica as his replacement to guard the second prince. So if the king finds out about all this, he'll be fully aware that some dumb bitch belonging to this particular noble house poisoned one of his seven sages.

Odds aren't good the king will be in a hurry with sending his troops.

Getting Louis involved would just draw attention to Monica in a bad way though.

If i remember correctly from the Novel: The Prince outright asked her if her father would actually stop helping the other lord because of that, and she clearly said that her father would not risk the east for such a personal matter. It was a bluff.
