Here I was thinking Monica’s social anxiety and love for numbers was some kinda quirky character trait. Instead it all looks to be connected to some deep trauma relating to her dad and the abuse she suffered from her relatives who “raised” her. Like fuckin hell, man. Girl had a godawful life after they killed her pops.

Nothing like seeing bullies get a taste of their own medicine. Absolutely neutered that little shit. I thought she’d get expelled, not have their whole House and homeland threatened. Kita is scary! lol

She really pulled up the "i'm the only villainess for Mónica" while actually being her fan.

Girl deserves the Oscar

When you sit back and reflect a little, she's not only sacrificed a friendship with her idol. She's only ever seen with her maid, and best we can tell had no other friends. Times like these are where alliances and long term friendships would be made, maybe even potential husbands, and she's giving all that up for Monica's mission.

I really hope she ends up with a close friendship with the Silent Witch and Monica's BFFs when this is all over.

To be fair, she is already in a secret keeper relationship with Monica, aka the Silent Witch, the strongest of the Seven Sages.

Spending her whole time at school showing the Silent Witch that the Norton family are good at both keeping their word and maintaining her favour is probably the best investments anyone can ask for.

Poor Monica immensely gifted but also immensely damaged. Hopefully making friends at the Academy will help move her social development into somewhat more normal channels.

Well I think she was already into numbers before, but the trauma with her dead may have just amplified it.

Agreed. As a kid she was running around playing with rulers and measuring everything.

I think her love of numbers is natural though her obsession with father’s research is trauma-related

I would say that her love for numbers have always been there, but her using it as a form of escapism is due to the trauma.

It's both. She was already a socially awkward shut-in maths nerd before. Trauma just makes it worse and made her not expect anything from others or trust them.

We saw she was into math, not that she was a shut in or awkward. So far all we've seen of her pre-trauma is her being a very happy and bubbly little girl who liked numbers. Pretty sure it's the trauma of her father dying because she said the wrong thing to the wrong person (according to her uncle in a previous episode) that gave her social issues.

To me there still seems to be a critical piece of her early life that we are missing.

Somehow she went from being abused and neglected by her uncle, as a peasant and daughter of a heretic, all the way to the top magic school in the world when she discoverers silent casting. Best guess is maybe one of the other magic saint types stumbled across her? Maybe someone who was familiar with her fathers research?

I too thought Monica was just being weird and autistic, but her fear of people turned out to actually be PTSD from watching her father burnt at the stake and having her uncle abuse her afterwards. Poor girl.

That bully was really stupid. How did she thought she could ever get away with poisoning someone before witnesses, even as an accident. And she was not even sorry she did that, so why did she thought people would believe her when she said it was an accident. Isabelle and Felix really put her back in her place. She is lucky that she won’t go to jail over this and that this will « merely » cause trouble for her family the next time her lands are attacked by dragons.

Yes emotional damage can cause the same symptoms as autism. She might have it too but will not know that until the emotional damage mostly removed.

I'd say likely she be pulled from school and maybe married off to some black sheep noble in remote place so she can breed lots of children while staying away form society where she can get family in more trouble.

Merely cause trouble for her family, by having their entire territory razed to the ground and countless subjects torn apart by dragons because she pissed off the noble in charge of defending that general area from dragon attacks.

EDIT: I'm going to assume the king isn't stupid enough to have only 1 noble house in charge of defending the entire kingdom from dragon attacks, and that Count Kerbeck is only in charge of the general area where Caroline's family happens to be located.

Yeah, the prince said only Count Kerbeck's soldiers can do that in the east, which suggests there are other families in different regions with the same ability...or maybe it just doesn’t happen elsewhere.

imagine if things turned worse and monica's real identity was revealed because of this incident. jail would be the least of her concern lol.

She really thought Monica would spit out the tea, and the three mean girls would just make fun of her and she would run off bawling.

At this rate, the Academy will be the first school to actually be "Bully Free" hahaha

An interesting aspect in building up Monica's character, that the traits she has aren't just for comedy and quirkiness, but show she has issues on a deeper level. Good character writing I would say, though killing parents off is a common tactic. I haven't seen one burned at the stakes that I can think of, which leaves a more impactful trauma for the mc. To which she then learned to cope with numbers which is realistic.

AS we see with Caroline here when one member of family gets crushed the clan gets crushed to some degree as well.

Caroline was too spoiled by her family and the rules of surviving and succeeding as a Noble were not given or were not drilled into her. Not that uncommon from what I have read.
