Another solid episode. Claudia and Isabelle were great as usual. Ryn imitating Louis' voice is always hilarious.

The only thing they removed this time is the conversation Isabelle and Felix had after the noble girls left, which I guess it's fine.

As for what they talked about, not really something spoiler worthy but just in case, [LN Spoiler] Isabelle says that her father wouldn't really abandon another territory for emotional reasons, but he could use the incident to gain the upper hand in future negotations.

Imo they really adapted chapter 7 well. I think this episode really characterized Claudia as she is in the light novel. So I am really happy for it. Also, this is the first mention of Cyril having a sister since I think the anime only mentioned his mother and the man who adopted him.

Regarding the spoiler, it's really the only thing I could nitpick about with the adaptation, given some of the odd choices. But these past two episodes definitely have been the best since the first two episodes.

They did cut Elliot's conversation with Felix as well when [Light Novel Spoilers]Felix mentions the Silent Witch.Since the episode basically confirms that they will only be adapting the first 3 books, cutting that scene is fine since it seems they will spend 5 episodes adapting volume 3.

Overall, I think they did a solid job with chapter 8 as well. A bit sad they cut the content between Isabelle & Monica before she heads back to her own room. But it is understandable they had to cut it.

Though it has me curious if they will jump straight to chapter 10 after finishing the scene at the end of this episode, considering I expect they will finish volume 2 next week.

They could end next episode on a cliffhanger and the resolution in the following episode, then start the next volume right away.

How far are the ENG light novels? The show has given me Ascendance of a Bookworm vibes early on so im pretty curious how long it is and quality.

The English translation is up to vol 6. The main story is only 9 volume in the original Japanese and is considered “complete”

Japanese already has vol 10 which started on a new arc , and the webnovel that should correspond to this new arc is also complete. And the author has confirmed that she is moving onto another story now .

It’s definitely not as long as Ascendance of Bookworm is though.

Another story as in not Silent Witch related?

Same universe but different location and cast of characters.

EN translation is up to vol 6 (Vol 7 will be released in November). JP will soon get vol 10.

This episode makes me so sad Isabelle doesn't appear more often. Would've been so much fun to have her around in every single arc.

Does she appear more in the source?

4

u/Juanraden Aug 16 '25

[LN spoiler]not really. isabelle is an underclassman (1st year) and in a different building from monica (2nd year). so her interaction with monica is limited to her room only.

3

u/Phoenix__Wwrong Aug 16 '25

[LN question] but do we get more focus on her? Or just like the anime, we barely get to see her school life and their interactions in their room?

4

u/Juanraden Aug 16 '25 edited Aug 16 '25

[LN spoiler] yes, the LN has more scenes for isabelle, though mostly just her spoiling monica after having a tough event and less about isabelle's school life, which the anime just cut short or straight up skipped. like in this episode for example, the anime just glossed over that monica is resting in isabelle's room for a week, while the LN actually tells what they are doing there and more. also, isabelle had more conversations with the prince after that confrontation in the council room, talking about the silent witch.

(Asking here since I don't mind spoilers)

I've read most of the manga but none of the LN, so I don't know a lot of about Monica's father, so my question is: What exactly did they burn him at the stake for?

It sounds like it could be as simple as "He's smart and writing weird stuff in books, he must be a witch! Burn him!" but I don't think so.

[LN Spoiler]Here's what is known so far in the English translations. Officially, he was executed for pursuing research to directly interfere with the human body using mana. Monica doesn't believe that he was actually doing that, based both on her memories and on finding a copy of the book that got her father killed. We also know that his arrest and execution were organized and carried out under the authority of Duke Clockford, and based on POV chapters from people who know, we know that it was carried out at the direct order of Duke Clockford. It is strongly implied, but has not been directly shown, that something her father did - not necessarily his research - stood in the way of one of Clockford's goals. So basically, the reason for his death was, "Hey, this guy is inconvenient for me, let's twist around the meaning of his main research into something illegal and use that to get him killed."

u/septesix Aug 15 '25

[Non-Specific spoiler]His work threaten the conspiracy of a powerful nobleman so said noble frame him for doing forbidden research to silence him.

[Very specific spoiler for the entire story]The 2nd Prince we saw was a fake , kept around by Duke Crockford to one day install him as king and contorl him from behind the scene. Monica’s father was doing research into genetics and his work might have exposed the entire conspiracy, so the Duke frame him for researching into body modification magic , a forbidden topic, and have him killed.

What happens to Caroline? Exile? Execution? Loss of her title? Does she change for the better?

22

u/septesix Aug 15 '25

[LN spoiler]Even in the light novel we don’t know. She exited the story here and never showed up again.

do they ever find out that monica is the silent witch or is it just her doing all these amazing things and goes unnoticed

[LN question] do you think we will get to that 3rd student in the anime? If not, can you spoil how he got to know about the Silent Witch?

Wait, there's a different magic school? What kind of school is the one currently in the anime then?

I have been under the assumption there's only one school in the kingdom. I thought this school was the same one Monica went to, but she skipped grades and graduated a long time ago.
I mean the old magic professor looks so much younger in her flashback...

9

u/Juanraden Aug 16 '25

There are 3 prestigious schools in this kingdom: 1. Serendia academy for royalty 2. Minerva's mage training institution for magic 3. Temple-affiliated university which focuses on law

The old magic professor transferred to serendia to teach the basics of magic to these royals who have the aptitude.

10

u/septesix Aug 16 '25

Just to add to it. Monica graduated from Minerva , where the old professor also transfer from. She has no ties to Serendia before the story began.

Some people will.
