I feel like Xiaolan is gonna end up an ice cream merchant, perhaps bankrolled by Loulan. I know she's fretting about employment but she has friends in high places even if she doesn't know it.

At rate things going eventually that might include Empress of China MaoMao. ;) Anime only that just a logical conclusion especially as I have realized what story type this is. MaoMao who managed recently to go only Emperor relative allowed back here without actually concluding her thought somehow. And as someone raised by high class sex workers she must have a fair education in how to know a man is into you MaoMao has managed to somehow to not continue that thought on to, "and that Prince has a crush on me might even take me as a consort or maybe even Empress if he takes the throne." I would love to see her reaction if that thought actually comes up finally. She probably could not even continue I'm some commoner denial and admit she's actually fairly high nobility by birth. :O. Talk about major freak out love to see it.

MaoMao your way past the point you can keep sticking your head in the sand your already a VIP in the Palace you need to actually realize what is happening and start playing the game to protect yourself your attempts to remain a nobody are a total failure and it going to get worse.

Now that I think about it that makes this tale a Cinderella type which exist world wide. Even includes the Cinderella must always be nobility or royalty to make the marriage more believable. Yes in some cultures Kings married commoners but always at a social price and likely loss of their power somewhat. This after more modern like Nobility and Royalty created. First Cinderella type story was slave women in Ancient Egypt who's sandal got carried off by a bird and dumped on the Pharaoh. The wicked stepmother or mother and siblings a later add on to some versions.
