Hmm can't say about the LN but there are quite a few differences with the manga regarding the contents for this episode, which I can't say I like.

So far I hugely prefer the manga in how they debuted Ficelle. The scene where they took down the robber in the manga did a much better job at showing Ficelle integrating magic into her swordsmanship. She took a proper stance and showed some magic-enhanced agility and ranged slashes/thrusts. Meanwhile in the anime so far it looks like she's just a wizard who uses a sword as a wand for some reason and that was it.

Lucy also appeared with clear hostility while hiding her identity to make Beryl more serious about the spar.

Edit: there's 0 joke about lucy looking like a child as well, probably because Beryl had to take her threats seriously from the start. Damn. As much as I love Saitou Chiwa for doing this role, that manga interaction would've been more awesome...

Im pretty sure i do not remember that dojo flashback scene in the manga. And the the encounter with Lucy is entirely different. Is this anime original scenes and remakes?

Probably from the LN that wasn’t adapted in the manga

Yeah, I know the first episode cut a lot from the manga, but perhaps the manga added a bunch of stuff. And I assume they made it that way to get to an actual "fight" by the end of the first episode.

I'm liking the show so far, but there's definitely a lot more telling going on instead of showing. The manga did a better job with introductions so far, but it really remains to be seen how the payoff turns out.

I heard the manga did indeed add a bunch of stuff, and that the anime is adapting the light novels instead of the manga.

you are correct. The manga publisher Akita Shoten is not involved in the anime production. It is being speculated that it is a rights thing, as the manga is strangely not published by the LN publishing house, under the Square Enix publishing arm.

Looks like they are toning down sensei's horniness a bit from the LN

Also the first two episodes adapts about 20% of the first volume of LN and entire first volume of Manga

This is toned down? Please please please say this isn't some weird groomer story.

u/sussywanker Apr 13 '25

He isn't a weird gooner, but he is aware how pretty and revealing his students are and tries to avoid them.

u/Martins224 Apr 13 '25

Does he have any romance moments with any of his students or do they strictly admire the teacher and he them?

I’m just a manga reader, but so far*, it’s strictly pure admiration between student and teacher. IIRC, the only one who shows any semblance of interest in wifing Beryl is [manga] Allucia, which is apparent since the first episode. But, as shown, she kept that to herself, and there has been little to no romance in the manga. (It was back-to-back epic battles, and I love it, lol.)

* So far in the manga, if my prediction is correct and they’re doing like 12/13 episodes cour, it means the end of this season plus a few episodes. So yeah, the manga isn’t that far ahead.

Who is the gray-haired girl in the ED?

1

u/LeleTheKing https://anilist.co/user/ikanlele Apr 19 '25

You meant blue-haired, right? Since the only grey/white-haired girl is Allucia. Anyway, she’s a new character, and not Beryl’s student. Likely gonna appear in two or three episodes and be pretty central to the plot of the second half of the season.

u/mushimushicake Apr 19 '25

not Beryl’s student

[manga/ln] not yet, but she still end up being his student by the end of the arc

But yeah, like you mentioned before (and someone else did in chapter 1), and by checking out the character list, anime seems that is going to adapt 2 LN volumes/30 manga chapters and call it, unless they surprise us by rushing, seeing that Myui/Mewi (with her LN design) and Spur are on the list and no one else past that point

Groomer, as in MC knows em since they were kids and basically helps raise em only to turn around and have in-appropriate relations with the kids.

10

u/sussywanker Apr 13 '25

Oh groomer

Lol no

u/AwkwardGraze Apr 14 '25

It's best to just avoid interacting with people like /u/Peaking-Duck . They're like a child that got their first dictionary and start repeating words ad infinitum while missing the meaning and context of the words. By their usage, every teacher and tutor is a groomer.

3

u/sussywanker Apr 14 '25

Ya seems like the right choice

-1

u/Peaking-Duck Apr 14 '25

I kind of thought it was a given here that inappropriate relations in a discussion about Groomers is sexual lol.

By their usage, every teacher and tutor is a groomer.

Uhhh i know reddit is multinational but wherever you are how many teachers and tutors are banging people they taught as small children?

3

u/MrFrisB Apr 14 '25

I mean that is what the word means but the teacher in this doesn’t do that, his students admire him and Allucia might want more than that but he is always appropriate towards them

3

u/JSouth72 Apr 15 '25

Plus he teaches swordsmanship he isn't raising them. Don't most of these kids have families? Plus he hasn't seen any of them for 10 years plus.

u/darienswag420 Apr 13 '25

It isn't a weird groomer story. And although the person you're speaking to is referring the LN, I don't remember the sensei ever acting inappropriately towards his students in the manga chapters.
