Discussion GHB - Spoilers if you haven’t seen the whole series Spoiler

So I’m rewatching and I don’t know if it’s a case of the topic not aging well but I am having a seriously hard time dealing with how easily Veronica forgave Logan for the GHB. It’s treated as a “whoops, my bad” and it feels like it wasn’t okay until she found out he had a hand in it. Then to top it off, he very intentionally drugged someone who is supposed to be his best friend.
And even if we take the route that his drugging Veronica was accidental, he was actively encouraging making Veronica a human salt lick but that was okay because they weren’t friends?

I know he apologized for it… for like 10 seconds… but it felt really glossed over. I just feel like the remorse wasn’t equal to the growth that should happen from that…

I know we’ve had the whole #metoo movement since then and I’m sure that’s coloring my view maybe… but holy cow is it treated as not a big deal.

I will say I absolutely love where Logan ended with his character development… I would have chosen a different ending to season 4 if it were up to me… but I’m also having a really hard time with the pass he gets. Yes I agree he has a lot of stuff to work out… but so much of the stuff he had a hand in was so unforgivable until it was him saying “whoops! My bad!”

I just feel like I have whiplash right now. (For reference I’ve seen the whole thing years ago but my rewatch is at episode 3 of season 2.)

Why Beaver?

I was just wondering if Rob Thomas, or one of the actors, ever explained where Cassidy's nickname came from?

Or am I just missing a very obvious joke? English is not my first language so I often miss cultural references. Was it just because he had better grades than Dick and therefore got called an "eager beaver"?

Thanks

Misc Season 4?

Does anyone know if season 4 was ever released on dvd in the UK? I'm seeing that it was marketed as season 1 (2019) but I'm coming up blank everywhere I look. I'm only able to find import or region 1 versions that won't play in the UK. I have the other 3 seasons and the movie on dvd and would love to complete the set.

Thanks

Just watched Hi Infidelity. So why did Claire fake being raped? She sure looked drugged in the ATM photo. If there's more to this than this episode revealed, no spoilers please.

The Oscar with Duncan's hair?

In the season 2 finale, Aaron confessed to V that he killed Lilly with an ashtray. So what was the Oscar with Duncan's hair have to do with it? I don't recall any explanation.

Discussion Movie

I’m starting the movie they was made after the show. I miss the vibe of the first three seasons and her hair/ outfits R.I.P. Anyways, I was kind of wondering why she acted like she was a bad and angry person in the original series? Genuinely besides the small cases she charged for, most of these cases she solved was due to being entangled in it or out of the kindness to protect others. These huge cases would have been more dangerous unsolved.

Rob Thomas is really an amazing writer

I feel like we often go hard on him for the VM season 4 finale (and rightfully so) but I just finished watching Party Down and this show was downright genius and yet another show created by Rob Thomas. When I think of creators getting meaningful stories out of really ridiculous or bold concept, I think of Joss Whedon (Buffy being initially about a blonde girl who turns out to be the one hunting the monsters and is helped by a group called the Scooby Gang but the show turned out to be one of the best piece of television ever thanks to the phenomenal writing and performances, then you have Angel which is like a Batman-like concept with a Vampire detective as the lead... still one of the best executed spin offs ever, up there with Better Call Saul, and then Firefly, that is about cowboys in space... but managed to be one of the best single season wonder and still makes into the top greatest shows lists, etc...) But Rob Thomas also succeed at making the most audacious/ridiculous concept really meaningful and good. Veronica Mars is a mix between the noir genre and the teen dramas, inspiring from the likes of Heathers and such (I need to make a post about that) that focuses on the perspective of a female protagonist at that (it shouldn't feel ridiculous but at the time, I guess it was) , then iZombie (I know it was a comic book initially but I read them and they weren't exactly... the same ?) that is also similar to Angel's concept with a zombie being detective (or more so helping the police and detectives) and then Party Down that focuses on a bunch of aspiring actors wanting to get their big breaks which is, quite original but stays phenomenal. Rob often also get the best performances out of his talented cast (I will always say that despite my eternal and intense love for The Good Place and it's still one of the greatest television out there, Kristen Bell's best performance stays VM, in which she was robbed of at least an Emmy nom; unfortunately, I saw Francis in quite a lot of shows/movies as very stereotypical roles which could almost makes me forget how good he was on this show, Rose McIver gives an amazing performance in iZombie, cause I can't imagine how difficult it must have been for her to give life to all those different personalities or quirks, while still remaining the same at her core).

Does Veronica hang out in the bathroom all day?

I love VM a lot--so apologies for criticizing. But it does strike me as a little ridiculous that anytime someone needs to hire her she is always conveniently in the bathroom and almost always alone. And nobody sees her put the Out of Order sign on/take it off? Seriously?

Season 3 quality?

I'm a first time viewer, finished seasons 1 and 2, just watched the first episodes of season 3. Is it just me, or is season 3 not as good? The revised theme song does not grab me. They haven't explained why V is at Hearst rather than at Stanford, where she was accepted in season 2. And why was Keith picking up Carmac from prison when supposedly he was looking for a "bail jumper"? Why would Kendall have paid Keith a large sum of money (enough to make Keith miss his flight to NY with V) just to drive Carmac from prison to their hideaway? She could have just called an Uber. Dies this season get better?

Discussion Just finished watching the show for the first time

Let me start by saying that I first got exposed to this show back in 2014 when the movie was released. My mom was a huge fan of VM back when it aired, after she took me to see the movie(which I thought was amazing) with her. Then I eventually watched reruns of the show when I had cable a decade ago. Anyways here are my thoughts now that I watched the show all the way through.

Seasons 1 and 2 are amazing, I just loved the mysteries in those seasons, it just bummed me out that the last two seasons were so boring.

I was not expecting Aaron to be Lily's killer

Wallace is my favorite character, I love his friendship with Veronica.

OMG, that first kiss between Veronica and Logan 😍, I know they had their ups and downs but I like them together, I was so upset about Logan's fate 😭why couldn't they let Veronica be happy.

The season 2 finale had me on the edge of my seat finding out that Beaver raped Veronica and that he was responsible for the bus exploding, that scene with him Veronica, and Logan on the roof was crazy.

I was a huge fan of Glee growing up so it was cool to see Jane Lynch and Dianna Agron make guest appearances.

I know I said that I thought the movie was amazing when I first watched it in theatres and I still do, but after finally watching the show I kind of found it odd that they had the plot of the movie be centered around Carrie Bishops death when she wasn't a major character in the show and along with the fact that they replaced Leighton Meester in the movie. They should've had it be centered around a different characters death.

Discussion Season 3 wouldn’t have flown past 2014

I forgot how… anti-woke season 3 is

The Lilith House would have been supported by everyone past 2010 for at least the first half of the season. The discourse would have been on how the writers failed women and feminism by entertaining the idea that a woman would ever fake a rape.

Veronica and Bell would have been cancelled for “not being a girls girl” because she cared more about truth than “women supporting women”. Taylor Swift says there’s a special place in hell for women who don’t support other women, etc etc

If nostalgia got the better of you, here’s the soundtrack of the season two in order of appearance (plus some songs I like here and there). Enjoy in shuffle!

Discussion Kendall & Duncan BEFORE the baby plot (spoilers) Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
27 Upvotes

*SPOILERS*
I'm on my millionth rewatch of the show. I always assumed Duncan never slept with Kendall & it was all just a plan for the running-away-with-baby plot.

But I was watching S2, E9 (before they know about Meg being pregnant yet) and Kendall says this to him and he just stays quiet.

(This is after that one episode where Mr. Casablancas left the country and she asks Logan to be her new sugar daddy. Logan says to choose the richest man in the room (Duncan) and she is last seen in D's bathroom naked asking him to scratch an itch. Logan brings it up the next episode with Veronica there & D only says "she just needed my help with something.")

So if he didn't sleep with her, why would he stay quiet after she says "I've been in both of your beds" 🤔

Discussion Introduced my PI Girlfriend to the show!

It's been extremely fun watching her watch it, and really drove home how well crafted a lot of the episodic mysteries are. She correctly called the first season's overall mystery and has nailed a lot of the episodic ones so far. We're about halfway through season two now andI'm vaguely dreading getting to season four even though we're a decent way off. I still haven't healed from that trauma.

Discussion Watching Veronica Mars for the first time I LOVE SEASON 1 but why is Duncan such a non factor in this season?

I know that Teddy Dunn isnt the greatest actor but I always think Duncan would have a bigger role in season 1 and Veronica trying to solve the murder of his sister; Lilly. He's just there.

Logan has more of a presence in this season than Duncan. I'm nearing the end of season 1 the last four episodes of season 1.

Saturn Vue Product Placement

Just re watched the show, I know placement happens but I found it pretty obnoxious how they worked this into the dialogue: "a Saturn for Mars!" From Logan and "oh wow is that the hybrid, I've been thinking of getting one" or something similar from Vinnie.

Discussion A good girls guide to murder Spoiler

Anyone else here who has watched A Good Girls Guide to Murder and would like to discuss the similarities to Veronica Mars? Nobody I know had watched either series, especially not Veronica Mars.

I really enjoyed a good girls guide to murder (or GGG to make it simpler) and I got some Veronica Mars vibe. VM will always be my favorite, it was dark and more realistic, GGG is like a nicer version of VM, but still enjoyable!

The ending of season 2 of GGG reminded me more and more of VM because it didn't have a "happy ending". That's one of the things I really enjoyed with VM, how the cases often weren't solved in a fair way. It was frustrating but real. Another similarity is how the case from season one continued on to season two is GGG like it did in VM.

Anything else you guys thought of?

Favourite quotes: echolalia edition

I loved reading everyone's fave quotes recently. It's such a well-written show! My question is: what are your favourite quotes to repeat? Maybe you have echolalia or vocal stims like me, maybe it's applicable to a ton of situations, or maybe it's just fun to say.

My top three are:

  • "I don't belieeeeeeve you!" - Keith to V, S2 E20
  • "Gotzmine, eh?" - Weevil to V, S3, E 12
  • "A baby? How'd that happen?" - Logan to V, S2 E11

It is amazing how many times I can throw these into a conversation. Truly astounding lol.

Also, an honorary shoutout to Dick for this beauty, because I say, "I'm not a professional ___ologist" or "I'm not an _____ologist" about pretty much everything lol:

  • "I'm not, like, a professional smellologist." - Dick Casablancas, S2, E 12

Jackie & Logan ramble Spoiler

Through this sub, it seems Jackie and Logan’s names come up most for being two polarizing characters. People either grow to love them or just hate them.
I personally liked Jackie’s development. I know she started off as a spoiled brat type of character, jealous of her Veronica’s friendship with Wally. It’s not justified but understandable.
Logan’s development is so fascinating to watch. He’ll have a milestone of growth in one episode and the next episode, he’s back chudding it up with Dick.
Is there anyone in this sub that actually likes Jackie?😂
For context, I am on s2e19! I know Logan’s story will continue to grow past this point. He and Weevil have two of the best arcs of development for me.
