For three and a half years, March 12, 1997 to November 30, 2000, NBC 40 was a major player in local TV by providing a local newscast called NBC News 40. They sought to show off lighter and more people-oriented stories compared to WCTV and ABC 27, and were a minor success in doing so, up until they shut down amidst a merger with ABC 27. Here's an example of said news from my VHS collection, it's one of the reasons I collect VHS tapes, to find stuff like this!

Hey, for those that don’t know, I am new to the area and trying to meet new people. As I was scrolling through the different groups, I noticed that there wasn’t one made for philosophy. For context, I have been reading and practicing philosophy (specifically stoicism) for a few years now. It is something that challenges me and keeps my mind sharp. It also helps keep me grounded in a world dominated by “noise”.
Is there anyone that would be interested in starting a philosophy group either here on Reddit or Facebook? My hope is that it would be a place we could learn from each other, have deep discussions, and traverse the challenges of life together.
If you’re just starting out or are curious, I would recommend The Daily Stoic created by Ryan Holiday. He is my #1 source for all things stoicism and I have learned a lot from reading his books.
If anyone is interested, either reply to this post or message me directly. I think this would be a good opportunity to create a network of people that want to understand and bear the challenges of life better.

My uncle has dementia and has actually been doing ok at cleaning his pool. But he’s recently gotten worse, and (yes) we are very much considering a change in his living situation soon. He’s lived in his home over 35 years. And change is difficult for people with dementia. Until then, we need to find someone to clean his pool. It only recently developed an algae bloom. Last month it was crystal clear. Now it’s green. I’ve had pools and know what it takes to clear it up, and that it can be more involved than a backwash vacuum/fill/chemicals/revacuum etc.
I’m hearing $600-1000 to do an algae cleanup. It’s not a swamp! I KNOW there have to be some non-corporate places that can to it for a reasonable amount. Does anyone have any recommendations for reasonably priced pool cleaners?
Pinch a Penny is out! They said $800-1000. I plan to talk with Pool Professor tomorrow. I talked to a couple others, but truly appreciate any recommendations!

I know how the younger veteran community has always ragged on the VFW and American Legion for being filled with 70+ y/o veterans "stuck in their ways". I want to believe that's not true, and I would like to be more active in my own community here in Tally.
What is the local VFW like, are there members in my age group (I'm 29), and do I need to sign up before I can enter and check out the place? How does it work? I did go over seas when I served, so I know I'm not disqualified from joining if I had to provide my DD214 off the rip.
If I need to be invited in by someone to show me around, my DMs are open to anyone kind enough to show me around. Thank y'all for your help!

Hello! I’m signing a lease for an apartment at the Tomahawk Terrace complex. From what I’ve heard, most residents are out of town for most of the year and only come back for game-days or rent via AirBnb. I wanted to know what the neighborhood is like and anything I should keep in mind. Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Thank you!

Hi friends! I am in a show that opens tonight at Theatre Tallahassee on Thomasville Rd!
“I Hate Hamlet” is a fun comedy by Paul Rudnick (who wrote Addams Family Values). Here is a note from him about the show:
Andrew Rally seems to have it all: celebrity and acclaim from his starring role in a hit television series; a rich, beautiful girlfriend; a glamorous, devoted agent; the perfect New York apartment; and the chance to play Hamlet in Central Park. There are, however, a couple of glitches in paradise. Andrew’s series has been canceled; his girlfriend is clinging to her virginity with unyielding conviction; and he has no desire to play Hamlet. When Andrew’s agent visits him, she reminisces about her brief romance with John Barrymore many years ago, in Andrew’s apartment. This prompts a seance to summon his ghost. From the moment Barrymore returns, dressed in high Shakespearean garb, Andrew’s life is no longer his own. Barrymore, fortified by champagne and ego, presses Andrew to accept the part and fulfill his actor’s destiny.
We open tonight and run for the next 3 weeks! Hope to see you there! :)

So I was driving by Thomasville road and drove past the old tallulah building and saw there was a new smoke shop and kava bar there that also advertised slushies. I tried it once when it was tallulah and it was ok. So I decided to give it another try.
I went in and it was pretty much the same layout as before. I asked the employee for a slushie and saw that it was in the old cups (says tallulah on it)
Does anyone know what's going on? Is this new place (called cleo vape now) just a rebranded tallulah? Is it owned by the same people? I thought tallulah closed down because of that loophole allowing the sale of cbd in that one bill was closed. Are they just going through old cups before using the newly branded ones? When I checked the reviews online they were all 5 stars and even got an alert from Google saying to be careful they had to remove alot of fake reviews and everytime I drove past there there is nobody in the parking lot except for like 1 or 2 cars.
I heard the stories about the tallulah owner being super shady and a horrible person so it wouldn't suprise me if she did do something like that.

I’m always looking for more outdoor art stuff around town so I was excited to learn about this event nearby in Monticello! I asked the event organizer and all mediums are welcome - I’m bringing my easel and oil paints but someone else is bringing their knitting.
FPAN or the Florida Public Archeological Network’s mission is: To promote and facilitate the stewardship, public appreciation, and value of Florida’s archaeological heritage through regional centers, partnerships, and community engagement.
I first heard of them through their historic headstone preservation training, CRPT (Cemetery Resource Protection Training).
Registration is required.
Here is the blurb from the website:
Join FPAN and the Florida Trust for our second nature journaling in a historic cemetery event! This time in Monticello!
Looking to relax, spend more time outdoors, or learn more about local history this year? This event offers the perfect opportunity to do all three. Whether you are a seasoned nature journaler or completely new to the practice, join us to explore what nature journaling in historic spaces is all about.
You don’t need to be an accomplished artist to participate — nature journaling is simply about slowing down, observing your surroundings, and soaking in the serenity that historic places provide. Bring your curiosity and creativity, and discover a new way to connect with history, nature, and yourself.
Monticello's Old City Cemetery is located at the corner of East Madison Street and North Cherry Street, next to Roseland Cemetery.

About 5 months ago I made a post about Dr. Pandit leaving town. I ended up moving over to Dr. Holder, and had one appointment with him. I really liked him, however, there seems to be a real problem with him keeping appointments.
My mom was also a patient of Dr. Pandit and moved to Dr. Holder's practice. She's had her initial appointment rescheduled three times and has yet to meet him.
My second appointment with him was supposed to be next week, but I got a call telling me it needed to be rescheduled. His next available is January 2027!!
So, anybody got any other recommendations for a cardiologist with time to see their patients?
