Skins with the original soundtrack: how, where and why you should watch it.

Unfortunately Skins has had to re-release it's episodes without the original soundtrack due to the large licensing fee's from the recording artists. The original soundtrack add's a lot of emotional depth to the series and it's much better to try and watch the same show everyone else did when it released. Here are some ways you can watch the series with the original soundtrack.

If you aren't from the United Kingdom, you will need a VPN. This essentially tricks your browser into thinking you are watching in the UK. You can get free VPN's but paid is usually better.

While I normally wouldn't condone pirating on a public forum, it's pretty difficult for many people to get the original soundtrack version outside of the UK, so if you do decide to pirate, here are some tips:

A good way to tell if what you downloaded the original soundtrack episode is if there is an E4 TV channel logo in the top left corner of the screen. http://i.imgur.com/gDX83wz.jpg

This means it's been recorded straight from the TV when it aired. Although UK netflix has the original soundtrack episodes without a logo, but I'm not sure if there is a torrent like that.

Another way to tell if it's the original soundtrack is this: In an early scene in Episode 2 of Season 1 (Cassie's episode), Cassie's taxi driver plays a song on the stereo. If you have the original soundtrack version, you should hear "Ludacris - Move Bitch" playing on the stereo. If not, then it's not the original soundtrack version.

"You know I love you, Nips"

The scene that made me saddest for Michelle, other than the countless amounts of times she found out about the girls Tony was shagging behind her back, was in s1 ep 7 "Michelle."

She looks at Tony and asks him to do one simple thing: "Tell me you love me." And then when he responds the way he does, she tells him again. But this time "Like you'd die for me" and "Like your world stops turning because of me."

And even then, he can't say it. It breaks my heart because we've all been there. Begging for the bare minimum from someone we love, and even though we know deep down that a person who loves us wouldn't even have to be asked, we still seek that validation.

Gen 1 vs Gen 2

• Upvotes

I know this has always been an overly discussed topic but I wanna throw myself in it too lol

I just started season 3 and so far I personally love Gen 2..!! I agree that Gen 1 will always be iconic but most characters from Gen 1 were so boring to me. If it wasn’t for Chris, Cassie & kind of Tony, Gen 1 would’ve sucked. I also really liked Maxxie but we barely saw him in season 2. Gen 2’s vibes are all immaculate! I heard season 4 sucks so i’m sad for Gen 2 to end that way but so far season 3 is awesome

A memory I've got of a random Christmas special that I can no longer find

So I was going thru my camera roll the other day and I found a video of me absolutely dying with laughter at a scene that doesn't appear in any of the officially released episodes. Think it takes place on Christmas Eve and it's Chris and Anwar going up to a dealers house, Chris says something along the lines of "your the only dealer that's in business today cos your Jewish".

Can anyone else remember this scene and/or know where I can find it again, can't seem to find it on YouTube anymore and it was definitely on there cos that's where I watched it.

Pretty sure there's some text saying "Skins Christmas Special" before this as well

Any help or memories are greatly appreciated, I think the video I took of it dates back to somewhere around 2020. You can also tell that it's not fully polished like the series from memory, shaky camera work etc

I’m leaving for a long trip today, and excited to read it on the plane.

[EDIT] I read the intro and first chapter in an Uber on the way to the airport, and this is a can't-put-it-down book! Wonderfully written and engrossing from the first page, which opens with her in a mental institution, heavily hallucinating, and believing that she is there to heal all the other patients. The first chapter jumps to her filming the movie Detroit, and the mental and emotional impact of her filming the scene in which her character is sexually assaulted by a police officer, a scene that had to be performed over and over and over. She was in an emotionally dark place already, but determined get the scene right both as a professional and also because the woman the assault actually happened to was on set, and Hannah was doubly determined to get the scene right for her. She then goes into her background, how she grew up unusually obsessed with magic and myth, and the kinds of characters she gravitated to -- many, many damaged women. Already in her career she had depicted suicide multiple times -- the first being Cassie's suicide attempt in Skins, which she says she had to swallow over 100 white TicTacs during the filming and recalls the sweet, sticky liquid she vomited in her trailer afterwards. The chapter ends with a friend on the Detroit set recommending "spiritual healing" and her obsession with self-help books that she calls the "gateway drug" into weird spiritual and healing beliefs.

SEASON 3 SPOILERS Just finished season 2 episode 10 and started season 3 episode 1 Spoiler

At the end of episode 10, i really thought we will be able to see their lives in different places, cuz i feel like we didn’t explore most of their storylines deep enough yet.

And when i started watching season 3, im not sure how i feel about the format of the show, with the rotating casts but im always a person who’s like “if you don’t try you never know.” So imma continue watching and see where it goes.

DISCUSSION How would Tony and Cook interact?

I feel like Tony and Cook would probably be good friends at first but then Tony’s manipulative ways and Cooks short temper would cause drama especially considering the relationship between Cook and Effy. I feel like Chris and Cook would probably make good friends though.

Season 4 Episode 4 Hen Party girls

For all the UK users of this subreddit: what subculture are girls at the hen party, including the bride Brandi, part of in the UK? I figure they have to represent a specific type of young woman during this time. What would you call the style? Also, what class are Brandi and her mom meant to be a part of?

SEASON 7 SPOILERS Why is the interpretation that Effy is taking responsibility for the first time in the Fire finale so popular? Spoiler

I wrote a post about how, in my opinion, Effy's smile in the Fire finale is the smile of someone who has settled all her affairs and is planning her departure on her own terms. But I also understand other interpretations, like her having some ace up her sleeve (or Tony saving her) or simply it being a smile of accepting her upcoming fate.

I cannot, however, understand how this can be interpreted as "pride in taking responsibility for the first time." She took responsibility for Anthea during her depression (and ran the house when Jim was on a business trip in France). She took responsibility for Tony, taking care of him during his recovery after the accident, She took responsibility for Pandora, taking her home instead of leaving with Cook after Pandora took drugs at Cook’s birthday party. She took responsibility for Cook during their run by calling Freddie when she saw how Cook's father influenced him. She even took responsibility after hitting Katie with a stone. Before ending up on the run with Cook, she actually came to the hospital to confront the group. She took responsibility for an ill Naomi—and had already been doing so before her diagnosis by supporting her financially. She took responsibility for hiding the truth about it from Emily (even though she herself was asking Naomi to tell her). She took responsibility for her manipulation of Dominic by informing him that he was in danger as soon as the FSA investigation started, and ultimately protecting him from any consequences (and here is also a frequent misunderstanding—she wasn't going to go to prison instead of Dominic; Victoria said "Dominic's not the important one here." Besides, even if so, Victoria was an FSA agent and not a psychopath wanting to lock just anyone in a cell and torment them; her goal was to bring Jake to trial. Effy would protect Dominic by making a deal with Victoria and providing a statement against Jake, not by the mere act of doing time).

Do people really think that during a strip search, when a guard tells her to squat and cough, Effy will think: "Well, I deserve this because in Year 11 I manipulated Sid to do an art assignment for Pandora." And there are comments like: "I WAS happy that Effy took responsibility for what she did but I was like damn, hasn’t she been through enough?" If you feel bad for her, it means you treat her like a real person with her clinical history; if you treat her as a real person, you don't feel bad for her this way. Just write that you would like to see Effy in solitary, in a suicide smock with slit wrists, or her second suicide attempt in the same family home in Bristol when she returns there on parole with a tag on her ankle.

Furthermore, I think she was already "punished" more than enough by the script. She humiliated herself in the most dignity-stripping way possible in the scene in her own hallway with Dominic (which, by the way, shows that Dominic wasn’t a "cute boy" at all. First, when Effy tells him that the FSA might be coming to him, he answers: "The fuck is wrong with you. She's [Naomi] alone in there" and walks away from her. And then, when they take his computer, he shows up at her apartment at night, starts screaming at her and insulting her, and when she, apologizing to him with tears in her eyes, kisses him in a desperate gesture, he [as her alleged friend] takes advantage of the situation and starts having sex with her, and after a moment, when he reflects, he simply runs away from the apartment). Jake betrayed her—something Effy never did; she manipulated Dominic but she never promised him love, which was clearly shown in the first part when she doesn't let him kiss her on the terrace, and in the second part when Dominic tells her: "I’m hypothetically in love with you. As you know," and she answers: "It's just a crush, you twat." And crucially, she did everything she could to protect Dominic from the consequences. And on top of that, Emily, whom she brings back from New York while her own romantic and professional life lay in ruins, slaps her in the face at the airport and vents her anger on her for fulfilling Naomi's request and not telling her about her illness.
