Sorry if this isn't allowed, but I got accused of attempting to steal at a sainsbury's, I'm not entirely sure how because I hadn't take any items off the shelf or even touched them and offered to let them check my rucksack to show nothing was in it (they didn't acknowledge my offer). I think it was because I was in a rush with the bus in less than 3 minutes and I wanted something specific that I couldn't find I came off as suspicious to them when I tried to leave quickly (not running or bumping) out. I should mention it's a local sainsbury so it was in the aisle that had a lead to a small line for checkout, perhaps I should have gone back to the entry aisle but I've never had a problem before doing that and they didn't think I actually stole an item (I think they believed I was surveying the shop looking to steal and when there were employers I rushed out to leave, I honestly had no idea until they accused me, even when they suddenly blocked me at first they were surveying me and thought I was suspicious)
I did stupidly because I was shy and nervous when they suddenly blocked me without explanation look through the other fruit section I was at which didn't have the thing I wanted and when they asked if I needed help I asked for oranges (I wanted a lone orange actually) and they pointed to the pack of oranges I saw earlier so I just went oh thanks and wanted to buy it because I just thought they wanted to help me find the thing because I looked lost finding it and might as well get the pack, so maybe that instead made me look like I was just trying to cover myself after being exposed? I don't get that though because wouldn't I have stolen something in the aisle they weren't in? Am I right in my understanding that you should reasonably believe and observe there was an attempt to appropriate and conceal the item?
I filed a complaint on the customer line in more firm terms and I will be more aware of how I come off in a rush from now on but I don't know if I'll be banned nationally from the face scanning they use and if corporate will take their side.
I know this might sound like I'm actually a dodgy or naive individual making excuses but I really do feel as if the way they acted made it so that they didn't have reasonable belief and I feel hurt at being labelled something I honestly had no intention of and had not even carelessly taken an item by accident.
