Hi Pals,
Just wanting to flag an instrument stolen from my car near Ladd’s last night-

White 2008 Fender American Jazz bass. No pickguard, upgraded seymour duncan antiquity pickups.

I filed a police report and alerted a few shops. Keep your eyes out if you can! Also any tips on where a person might take it?

DM with any info and thanks!

The Witchmen - Garage, Rockabilly and early Psych - Live at Mekong Bistro Sunday June 7th

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey, all you krazy kids and kats! Have you heard of The Manwitches?

Well boy howdy, they’re only the Willamette Valley’s premier purveyors of well-curated rock and roll, brought to you in the form of live music performance!

These ol’ boys (and occasionally girls) have been putting on semi-annual shindigs of the speakeasy variety in the art houses and halls of the Portland Metro for the past few years.

Now, they’ve adopted a new alter ego: The Witchmen!

They’re moving outta your mom’s basement to perform a set of early garage rock hits at the Mekong Bistro, this coming Sunday, June 7th, at 7:30 pm!

The set will contain many old favorites and deep cuts of the ‘60s, with a few surprises thrown in! Prepare for everything from fuzzed-out rock for teeny-boppers, early Rockabilly sides, and all the best tracks from the Nuggets comps!

There’s a $10 cover, a full bar, and of course, lots of delicious Vietnamese food.

Slurp onna squid salad as you sing about how you ain’t nobody’s steppin’ stone!

Serve looks while hovering above a plate of labb while the keyboard player cries nearly one hundred tears!

Bring your dancing shoes and do your blue black hair up just like they did back when. It's time to party like it's 1969!

Amateur Bassist LFG

Howdy y'all, I'm not sure if r/portlandmusic is the place to be posting this sort of thing but the facebook group seems dead so I figured I'd try. If anyone has any suggestions for better avenues to search in please lmk.

25m bass player, looking for a group. 6 years of upright experience and about two years of electric. Can read sheet music or play chords, but solidly amateur both in skill and availability. Big fan of alternative ala The Strokes but I'm honestly open to try anything.

Possible Portland artist cd??

Total shot in the dark but I was looking through a cd case I found at the goodwill bins in Milwaukie near Portland and cannot trace the origin of this cd. It’s printed green and black on top ( I’ll put a photo in the comments ) and has 6 tracks. Ive shazamed, searched lyrics, and everything else but there is no trace of it on the internet. I figured since I got it near Portland it could be something local?? Perhaps not but I am sleepless trying to find the origin!

Hello friends,

We are putting on a fundraiser show for local volunteer organization Portland Burrito Brigade!

This Tue June 2nd at Alberta St Pub.

Burrito Brigade meet once a month in NE Portland, to make 300 vegan burritos to give out to those facing food insecurity in our community.

We rely on donations to keep things running each month, and we've got some great local bands lined up 7-10pm, to bring in some funds for our supplies, monthly rent, and fresh produce!

Suggested donation is $10-30+, and we also welcome donations of rice, dry pinto beans, 12" aluminum foil sheets, spices, 10" tortillas, potatoes, carrots, onions, and cooking oil.

Music for the evening:

7pm - David Pollack

acoustic rock/pop

www.davidpollackmusic.com

8pm - Bitches in the Beehive

indie folk rock

https://bitchesinthebeehive.bandcamp.com/music

9pm - Each Both

All ages until 9pm, so bring the kiddos.

1036 NE Alberta St

Portland OR 97211

Hope you see you there, and if not, we'll catch you at the next brigade, Sun June 14th.

Email portland@burritobrigade.org for more info, or if you would like to donate but can't make the show.

Thanks!

Portland choir recommendations?

I’m new to the area and looking to join a choir (potentially more than one), but I find myself overwhelmed with the choices!

I consider myself a reasonably skilled choral singer (many years of experience, solid sight reader, degree in vocal performance), and I tend to get frustrated in choirs when multiple rehearsals are spent plunking out parts or when directions need to be repeated before they are applied.

I’ve already auditioned for one and applied for a few others, but I’m wondering if anyone here can suggest choirs or help me eliminate any that might be geared toward less skilled singers.

VIDEO EDITOR WANTED

We are looking to shoot a music video that would be similar to Arise by Sepultura. We are a Portland band but the identified film location is out in the desert by Toppenish Washington. We are looking to hire a talented and professional video editor who would be interested in working with us.

Bass player and maybe a drummer or synth?

I’m out on the mountain 🏔️ but I’m looking for a bass player to vibe with and a drummer or drum machine I’m 47 and 100% degen. I’d also be down with some weird synth stuff… so u into that Doctor Who show intro kinda stuff.

I haven’t gigged in forever and I need some work; I can get there kinda quickly like 1k practice maybe less since I doubt we will ever get payed 💰but who knows?. and I’m down to practice constantly as long as we are kinda close to each other. Like I can’t drive 2hrs a day to practice.

I want to make a very psychedelic kinda vibe soundscape void improv thing kinda dungeon synth but more outdoorsy with a 19th century modern take on France. Kinda Balzac. with a touch of some covers. Other influences too but this post is already long enough.

Any takers? It’s going to get weird. There will be some sort of invocation required and some minor requirements. I’m sure I’ll have a few paranoid bug outs and fuel fill rants but it’s all love ❤️

It’s cool. Like sorry this isn’t for the faint or heart. It’s going to take a lot of work.

I’m sort of envisioning this Bet Easton Ellis wall of glass playing backyards and BBQ jawns in the suburbs just soaking it in. The Pdx rumor mill drifts through a wide distorted lens and we got thicc sunglasses on and we just doing our thing like ghosts.

Trust me. it’s going to be very unhinged kinda diplomatic and 100 academic. U can be a normie but be warned we have to meet at the end of time.

Let me know. I think my DM settings are working. So whatevz. 🕊️

Best instrumental bands in Portland?

Just curious as those don’t usually get talked about as much and it’d be interesting, as great as vocal bands are. The bands can be any genre and as avant-garde as you like. I’m interested to check some out.

Rackety Casio-goblin band

You know what sort of band I imagine that would be great and that seems like something that could easily happen in a place like Portland?

A band of four or more people all on keyboard synthesizers, particularly salvaged old vintage ones, like the odd Casios and Yamahas. Wouldn’t even necessarily need to know how to play them properly, the bandmembers would just be full of ideas and spirit and troll (like The Residents for example). Just like a crew of unhinged basement goblins (or garage ones). Going through the synth voices for trumpets, strings, violins, mandolins, percussion, and even the noises. You know the ones. Doors creaking and shutting, laugh noises, helicopters, guns, bubbles, sirens, lasers, etc. The band would just keep experimenting together with all these voices and ways to combine and synchronize them together, and record it all too for it to be edited together later. And the other people out there not in the band, they would hear such clamor of forbidden sonic spells and they would recoil and complain, “Stahhp, we can’t take it, we can’t take all the greatness and insanity of it all, it’s too MAHHCH, it’s too MAHHCH, ah, stop it, no more eerie swirls and hypersymphony and haunted house and emergency noises, I can’t take eeehhhhhht.” But they wouldn’t stop. They would continue, and that would be the sound.

So if there’s any band out there in Portland or nearby that sounds like that, let me know because I want to hear their record and want to hear them live.
