META Rule 7 update - Self promotion rule

What changed?

Rule 7 has been updated and has one change:

We are now adding the requirement that for any self promo on the sub that the user has more than 3 months activity on the subreddit.

Why the change?

Recently we have seen an increase in posts of users making a few quick comments on other threads and the next day then posting self promo material. This is technically passing our current rules and so these posts are passing. We do want our users to self promo and promote things they are working on and want to support our community members.... but we want them to be our community members not people that have just done the bare minimum to spam a post and then disappear forever.

Can I give feedback on the change?

Yes. Please do but please make it in this thread. Especially if the language isn't clear.

DISCUSSION May Megathread Madness - Important Warning, Too

Welcome to the May Megathread.

This thread is for questions and discussions that are easily answerable with one reply or don't fit the sub because of R3 rules.

Last month has brought us some very interesting changes in the gaming industry, as well as collapses and near collapses of franchises, games, and drama-llamas on youtube.

IMPORTANT NEWS FOLLOWS:

Admins have turned the remove/suspend bot up to 11. I know a lot of you are constantly saying "fuck the police" about us enforcing reddit global rules. You might now get to experience reddit global removals first hand, because we have no idea why some comments are being removed.

I personally was having a conversation with a perfectly sane poster, then their very next comment to me was removed almost instantly by reddit filters and they were suspended.

Fuck me! I didn't expect that, and I expect everything bad.

If you see "[ Removed by Reddit ]", that is the admins, not us, so don't use modmail to ask us why you were removed. We don't know unless you tell us what you posted (but not word for word, or you'll probably get hit again).

So, until we figure out what's going on, this is a general Red Alert to all recalcitrants and rebels on KiA who think they can do whatever they want to: you're on notice. The admins, not us, have hijacked the general reddit filters and tied them directly into their ban bot for naughty ideas and words. You may end up having your account suspended if you start emulating funny mustache man or try to talk about our favorite banned topic.

There's a chance innocuous comments about Those Who Shall Redeem, Not You! may even be what gets you suspended. Fuck if we know anymore!

So, keep your shit tight, don't stop for strangers, and make sure to carry your sovereign citizen card at all times in case the admin bot catches you lacking when you jump in the shower in the morning.

Good luck!

The creators of the new Lego Batman game accidentally put henchmen instead of henchperson

Post image

They accidentally put henchmen in the objective but put henchperson for the dialogue. Seems like they know deep down what term is actually supposed to be used. They must have been catering to shareholders or something. Maybe it was henchmen initially but someone forced them to switch all of it to henchperson instead and one got missed?

Tom Henderson on Marathon: "I can't remember the exact budget, but they're not near breaking even"

https://youtu.be/NoxlKQRhF34?t=2787

He says he won't be surprised that probably "we'll see substantial layoffs in the future"

He also says "So it's like well where do they go from here because whatever the next game is it's clearly like in very early probably concept phase. It's not even in pre-prod yet. And that means that the next game is at least four or five years away. Marathon with let's just say even 50,000 concurrents, right? Is that sustaining a studio with eight to nine hundred employees? No, not at all."

Do you think graphics obsession of modern video games is why they are just so bad even ignoring the woke crap?

As stated in the title, let's leave aside wokery and discuss whether you guys think graphics focus of modern games has affected games to their detriment or it has had no effect at all?

Me? I think the graphics obsession has ballooned game costs and made it so you don't get new game mechanics or old game mechanics old games had that don't exist in new games cause so many polygons and pixels or frames or whatever are there that you can't just do whatever.

But what do you think? Do I have a point or I'm stupid?

Fortnite just revealed one of their newest skins. Either they got tired of listening to the puritans, or they desperately need the money

Two things:

  1. Yes, this is a real skin

https://x.com/Fortnite/status/2061206149949759678

  1. I'm not complaining. I'm actually happy to see Fortnite grow some balls, but at the same time, after how badly they've butchered previous skins like Kitana and Mad Moxxi, it's hard to tell if they're being genuine or not.

The wokeoids act like they are against gatekeeping, but the truth is that if they think that “chuds” are getting into media THEY like, they will absolutely gatekeep.

I often hear from certain people that “B-b-but gatekeeping is le bad!” But as time has gone on I have realised that they are all bullshitting because the truth is that the other side will completely gatekeep if you are trying to get into “their fandom” TM.

I’m sure we have had occasions where this has happened. I remember others getting blasted in BG3 spaces online because they “showed their views” or whatever or were annoyed at how none of the female companions were all that appealing to them. (Y’all are sleeping on Minthara lol but I digress)

Something else I am aware of is this up and coming manga called Kagurabachi, which is apparently gonna be the next big anime for the next decade. Now I’m just getting into it now but turns out it has a massive fujoshi fandom, it’s kinda like a modern Naruto and Sasuke effect from what I can tell in the sense that the two main male characters have a very deep bond. (Granted, apparently the fujos helped stop the manga from getting the axe and the rest of the fanbase is very grateful to them so they welcome them for that reason so I kinda get it in that sense and if that actually true then at least in this context I’ll let it slide. Don’t stop some people from gatekeeping though.

But the big one was apparently when bronies were a big thing. I don’t know much about it because I wasn’t there but if anyone could tell me some of the gatekeeping that was going on at that time please do tell me. Cuz from what I can find a lot of people were mad.

Just wanted to say this in case anyone tells you that only we gatekeep. No, they do it too. They just suck at it.

I'm shocked. The girlboss movie played that has an insufferable girlboss as the lead will be a flop. Who would have saw this coming?

Also, aren't superheroes like Superman and Supergirl supposed to be peak fantasy and something people should aspire to be? Why is, no offfense, such an ugly person like Milly Alcock playing her? What happened to Melissa Benoist or Laura Vandervoort? What a fall from grace.

Difficulty in Gaming

I came across a video on YouTube yesterday about difficulty in gaming. I am going to avoid linking it because regardless of what I say someone will feel the need to go and harass the person who made it. Needless to say it was one of the worst videos I've seen personally on YouTube and I largely watched it because I wanted to see what they said and credit where it's due they said one thing that wasn't dumb as hell. I recommend that if you go looking for the video and find it, save yourself the 40mins of voice fry irritation and just not watch it.

But the video was of course about how difficulty in gaming is treated as this big thing and you are either mocked for wanting easier options by players or games themselves wrapped in the usual "it's quite ableist to not have more accessibility/difficulty options" nonsense we here often now. Now the video also mentioned accessibility in gaming and their one good point was that making things more accessible doesn't always mean making them easier, but of course failed to provide ideas on how this would look like. But it did get me thinking what everyone's option is regarding difficulty in gaming. Do you feel there is a place for more difficulty options in all games or just some? Do you feel games shouldn't make fun of you for choosing easier options or should they continue to do so? And how does this fit within more accessibility options in general?

Personally, I feel that this whole decision and "push" (for lack of a better term) is just coming from a need to homogenize gaming as a whole and make it all the same. Instead, of just accepting that there will be some games you won't be able to play they push for changing something fundamentally under the guise of being more accessible.

I am not against difficulty options but playing tougher games have made me realise that too many game devs poorly design their difficulty options and more often than not games with one difficulty at least feel more balanced and fair in how tough they are. I'm interested to hear what everyone else feels and their views on it. I didn't really address accessibility itself because I feel that it is only paired with the discussion about difficulty in an attempt to play emotional games but curious what others think.

Devs for dying game haven't learned anything

Post image

Context: Destiny 2 just announced End of Service with one last big update happening mid-June before being exiled to the backburner. Paul Tassi is a YouTuber and Go Figure is a gun that was "sunset" (removed).

Instead of approaching this with any kind of tact, the dev team just give one word replies and dismiss anyone asking for the shit they removed that they didn't pre-approve of coming back.

Code 3 - An example of the girlboss trope done right!

Code 3 is a movie that focuses on Randy, a paramedic, as he takes on a 24 hour ambulance shift and the variety of things that happen through it. It's about all the stuff paramedics have to go through in their job, but with a big heaping of dark humour (kinda like Scrubs). I'd recommend it on it's own merits (partial spoilers below)

At the start of the shift, a female student joins the ambulance crew as a ride-along. At the start, she seems to perfectly fit the girlboss trope. She's firm, not taking shit and instantly competent at her job in contrast to the previous student who couldn't handle the pressure.

In another movie, this would set her up to teach Randy a thinly veiled lesson about female superiority and how he should accept that they're great at everything. However, the movie is clear that she is bright but inexperienced, while Randy has been doing this a long time and is good at his job.

So when Randy administers slightly unconventional first aid to a man with a serious injury, she loudly questions him about this all the way to the hospital. He finally gets her alone with her in a room and clearly explains to her exactly why he did the procedure. He also insists that she never question his judgement in front of a patient for obvious (to us) reasons.

And.... she actually backs down. She accepts that she was wrong, both for doubting an experienced paramedic, and for potentially upsetting a patient. She apologises, and says it won't happen again.

Randy is actually surprised by this, but accepts her apology and focuses her energy on the rest of the shift, with both parties trusting eachother more now and working together better.

There's some more stuff to her, like the movie does actually explain why she's so arrogant and skilled, but the key part is that the "girlboss" is challenged and shown she's not infallible. She might be competent and confident, but there's still stuff she has to learn from other people, including men, and accepting this will make a better situation for everyone.

Any idea why the time limit was added to The Blood of Dawnwalker?

I just learned that there is a time limit in the Blood of Dawnwalker. I've been waiting for a game for a long while, but time limits just aren't for me. I don't like being stressed out in games and prefer to explore it at my own pace.

Based on what I gathered on steam forums time passes when:

" Per last gameplay and previous ones:
- getting new skill at shrine (so leveling)
- using fast travel
- waiting at the shrine
- doing sidequest
- doing main quests
- longer talking with story related npc's
For now those consume time currency "

Any ideas why the devs added it? I was sort of out of the loop about this feature, since I wanted to avoid spoilers. No reason to be afraid about that now.
