Elections & By-Elections What’s your most (un) left-wing view or position?

For those who identify as left wing or centre left - what’s a position or view that you hold that goes against your general left wing outlook? e.g immigration, death penalty, welfare, etc.

Text based Post/Discussion Summer books!!!

Hi everyone, last time I asked a question like this I got lots of good recommendations.

I have just booked my holidays. Looking for 2-3 books to bring with me to read on trains and beaches! With a focus on irish politics or how governments should/actually work.

Local Politics & Elections Fear, Facts, and Independent Ireland – Where's the Line?

It would seem that the bottom line with some in Independent Ireland is that they will do anything to whip up hysteria and rile people up.

Looking at some of the stories and statements this week, a lot of it seems designed to provoke outrage rather than offer solutions. The most recent example was comments made by Ciaran Mullooly which sparked significant criticism because serious claims were made without any clear evidence being produced to support them. Critics argued that if politicians are making allegations that fuel public anger or suspicion, they should be able to back those claims up with facts rather than speculation.

Does anyone else feel that some of these groups are increasingly relying on fear, outrage and culture-war politics to build support, rather than focusing on evidence-based policy and practical solutions? Or am I being unfair?

I’ve only come across the What Were We Like podcast over the last few days, but really enjoy it. Refreshing examination and interrogation of Irish political history.

I really enjoy Diarmaid Ferriter and Catriona Crowe. RTE doing something simple, properly.
