News Everything we know about the Gumball movie + new series

So as we know, Gumball is getting a movie and a new series (some sources say it’s season 7). However, it’s hard to find most information that’s publicly available, so I’m compiling it all into one post, and will update it if we get anything new. Keep in mind that the question marks on dates are because I cannot find the exact day, and the LinkedIn links only seem to work with an account or in incognito mode on a desktop browser.

February 17th, 2021 - Cartoon Network and WarnerMedia announced that a movie is in development under the working title "The Amazing World of Gumball Movie".

April 12th, 2021 - In a WarnerMedia EMEA Kids Leadership Team article, it was announced (or possibly leaked) that Sarah Fell was overseeing projects such as "The Amazing World of Gumball". However, this could’ve been about Gumball Chronicles.

September 21st, 2021 - Cartoon Network and WarnerMedia announced that the movie (now under the working title "The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie!”), along with a new series had been greenlit and were "coming soon".

January 1st, 2022 - A few people added their roles for the movie to their LinkedIns, such as the producer, Carla Connor, and the editor, Prakash Patel.

February ??, 2022 - Bobbypills begins working on storyboarding and designs for the movie, but they never seemed to announce it publicly. However, you can see people at Bobbypills who worked on it on LinkedIn, such as Aurelie Charbonnier, who actually plays the role of Sussie.

July 1st, 2022 - Light VFX confirms that they are involved in the movie's production at both their France and UK studios alongside Bobbypills and HB Studios Europe in this Facebook post.

August 22nd, 2022 - It is announced that due to the merger of WB and Discovery putting both companies in debt, the Gumball movie along with 5 other projects were dropped and no longer funded by HBO Max, meaning that someone else will have to buy distribution rights in order for the movie to live. I didn't put a link or source because articles and posts regarding this are very easy to find.

November ??, 2022 - Emma Fernando, an employee/producer at HB Studios Europe announces that she is serving as the producer for "Gumball S7".

March 9th, 2023 - After the assistant editor, Gary Bradbury, who had worked on the movie from May 2022 to February 2023, finished his work on the movie, WBD put out an article explaining that they were now hiring another assistant editor.

April 19th, 2023 - After CN posted Banana Joe's version of Beethoven's 5th Symphony from the last episode on Twitter, they said that this was the last song in the series until more Gumball. This could either mean that the movie is still being shopped or that it's been picked up by another streamer.

April 19th (possibly a few days before), 2023 - Storyboarding for season 7 at Bobbypills begins, with many people from the original seasons/series working on it, like Aurelie Charbonnier.

April 28th, 2023 - In response to being asked if anything Gumball related was shown at a WB Animation Studio Showcase, an animator said that Gumball fans are in for a treat, which means that as of 4/28, nothing has been canceled.

May 5th, 2023 - A composer at HB Studios Europe responded to a comment saying that they are writing songs for the new series.

June 13th, 2023 - Studio Soi puts out a post on LinkedIn looking for layout artists, likely for season 7. I can’t find the post but you can find screenshots on Twitter.

June 15th, 2023 - A teaser for season 7 is shown at the Annecy Festival in France.

August 8th, 2023 - A page for season 7 is made on EIDR, along with it's 40 episodes, and is said to be coming this year. This reportedly went public on 2/15, but it wasn’t noticed til people on Twitter started talking about it.

August 15th, 2023 - Studio Soi made another post, looking for previsualization artists. It states that it's full-time for approximately 13 months, beginning in August/September, so we definitely aren't getting S7 in 2023.

September 14th, 2023 - Studio Soi made yet another post, this time looking for key animation (beginning December 2023) and clean-up artists (beginning February 2023).

September ??, 2023 - The VA of Mr Small, Adam Long, returns for season 7, as shown on his LinkedIn.

November 16th, 2023 - Perry Allen announces that he is working on season 7 as a background designer on a LinkedIn post.

November 16th, 2023 - Matt Ley announces on X/Twitter that he is working on season 7, with his Instagram bio saying he is a designer.

November ??, 2023 - Aurelien Bayonne returns for season 7 as a storyboard assistant at Bobbypills.

December 4th, 2023 - Christoph Simons returns for season 7 as a 2D key animator, as shown here.

January 16th, 2024 - The movie gets an EIDR page, confirming possible titles and the movies length being 1hr and 30m.

January 16th, 2024 - Someone by the name of Freddie on X/Twitter announces that they’re an animation supervisor for season 7.

January 29th, 2024 - Joe Sparrow announces on X/Twitter that he is art directing season 7 and that the crew is looking for a team of background artists for it.

January 29th, 2024 - Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe announces that they're looking for background artists, almost certainly for season 7 because of Joe Sparrows announcement.

January ??, 2024 - Giulia Chen begins working on season 7 as a 2D key animator, as shown on her LinkedIn.

February 3rd, 2024 - u/Guillesariegos on X announces that he is a 2D animator for season 7.

April ??, 2024 - Aurelie Charbonnier presumably finishes her work on storyboarding for season 7, according to her LinkedIn.

May 2nd, 2024 - Elena Jerez Cordero begins working on season 7 as a cleanup artist, as shown in this LinkedIn post.

May 13th, 2024 - Annecy Festival announces that they will show the making of the reboot (likely season 7) on June 13th.

May 23rd, 2024 - Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe begins looking for a character designer for season 7, as shown in Emma Fernando's LinkedIn post.

June 12th, 2024 - It is announced at the Annecy Festival that season 7 will be released in the 2025-2026 season.

June 13th, 2024 - We get conformation at Annecy that the movie is not cancelled, but will be different.

June 13th, 2024 - At Annecy, we find out that the first episode of season 7 is called "The Burger".

August 26th, 2024 - The first 26 episodes of season 7’s titles are shown on EIDR.

April ??, 2024 - Aurelie Charbonnier finishes storyboarding for season 7, as shown here.

October 1st, 2024 - Another 2D key animator, Marc Sanz Arbiol, announces his job at Studio Soi. Thanks to RegularCapital for letting us know.

January ??, 2025 - Lele Vives announces on LinkedIn that design for season 7 is wrapping up.

February 25th, 2025 - @TheFedeBTS on X/Twitter asked CN Korea when they'll premiere what we then thought would be season 7 (now the new series), and they said it's scheduled for October.

January 24th, 2025 - Paulo Scatena announces on LinkedIn that he's working as a technical director at Studio Soi, assisting in production.

January 30th, 2025 - Benjamin "Benji" Wahl announces on LinkedIn that 2D FX work for season 7 (now the new series) would be finished by May.

April 7th, 2025 - Christoph Siemens announces on LinkedIn that his job as a 2D key animator on season 7 will end on June 20th.

May 19th, 2025 - Cartoon Network and Hulu announce with a sneak peak that the new series, titled "The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball" will premiere in 2025. Note that it's seemingly a Hulu exclusive in the US, but will air on CN and HBO Max internationally.

This took (and at times, still takes) a lot of research and typing, but again, I just wanted to try to help some people out since lots of information regarding these projects can be pretty hard to find.

Meta T3WOG S07B Episode Discussion Master Thread and Update on Subreddit Matters Spoiler

Hello! Hi! What's up? I hope all of you are doing well.

Once again, Hulu decided it would be a lovely idea to drop twenty episodes at once! I guess this is just how we do stuff now! In an effort to give each episode as much breathing room as possible given the circumstances, each episode will be given its own individual discussion thread, just like it was back in the summer. For the sake of your navigation convenience, I made this thread to act as a central hub of sorts linking to said threads.

Before we get to that, I do want to give people a heads up about some policy matters on the subreddit, mainly that we have temporarily reinstated the automatic filter for image and video posts. Any posts containing video or image files will be automatically taken down. This doesn't necessarily mean you broke the rules; it just means that a human moderator will need to review your post first. We expect the activity here to get pretty hectic, so for the first week or so, we just want to have that stopgap to help us better keep an eye on everything, especially since many of those image and video posts are naturally going to contain spoilers.

Speaking of, which, spoilers! Please be kind and courteous about that! For the past four months, we've kind of had it so that any posts referring to material from the first half of the new season that wasn't already in the promotional material would automatically be marked as a spoiler. I have to discuss it with the others more, but we'll start getting more lax with marking spoilers for those first twenty episodes. HOWEVER, in turn, we will be pretty STRINGENT about SPOILERS for this NEW BATCH! This December 22nd release only pertains to the U.S., and those outside of Yankland who want to watch the batch when it officially releases in their country may not want to be spoiled. Please be mindful of that. We'll do our best to mark spoilers if you forget to do so, but help us out, please.

That's for it now. I hope you have a good rest of your day/night, and as I most likely won't be making any more of these official subreddit posts before the start of the new year, an early Happy New Year to all of you! Happy viewing!

SPOILER WARNING FOR ALL EPISODES:

Ben Bocquelet, Jon Foster, and James Lamont originally came up with the premise of this episode back when the latter two were still working on the show.

Discussion Unpopular opinion: The Void lore ruined Gumball

Forgive my english.

I’m probably going to get a lot of downvotes for this, but I really want to say it because it feels like nobody else shares my view. I’ve always thought that the entire Void lore and Rob storyline ruined the show.

What made the show special, in my opinion, was its style and humor, which is clearly aimed at kids but at the same time, I’m sure a lot of people in their 20s and even older still enjoy it. I’ve always seen it as a more childlish version of Family Guy. There was a timeline, sure, but each episode still felt self-contained, with new plots every time in the style of shows like Family Guy or The Simpsons.

But I honestly think the biggest mistake was focusing too much on Rob and the Void. I’m not saying Rob is a bad character in fact, the idea of the Void and Rob coming back after being thrown into the sewer, forgotten by both the characters and the writers, and eventually becoming a villain was actually original and interesting. But I really hate how it suddenly became the center of everything.

Again, the concept of Rob turning evil was a great way to bring him back into the story, but I find it really annoying how even the final scene of the show was focused on him. Take Molly, for example, she ended up in the Void because the writers considered her a useless and boring character, and they used that to create the Void episode where she’s rescued and brought back. Then they even leaned into the idea of her being “boring” in the episode where she tells stories, and it worked really well.

They could’ve done the same thing with Rob a recurring villain who occasionally shows up with a new evil plan to mess with Gumball and in fact they did, and those episodes worked great (like the bus episode, the remote control episode, and the Banana Joe one where Rob hates him).

But for me, the mistake was trying so hard to force this Void lore into everything, to the point where it even became the final frame of the series finale. I’m pretty sure there was originally supposed to be a planned movie, which honestly I never liked the idea of, and I think the creators eventually realized that too since it never got made.

To me, Gumball isn’t memorable because of the Void lore or Rob. A good example of memorable lore would be something like Steven Universe, but I’ve never seen Gumball as a show meant to be followed for its story.

Now I know TWWWOG exists, I watched the whole first season in two days but I’m not a big fan of the new show for a few reasons. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve heard season 2 is better, so it could definitely improve, and I hope that even 10 years from now they’re still making new seasons of TWWWOG.

But I really hope this new show doesn’t end up revolving around a deep lore like the Void, because in my opinion that’s what ruined the original series. It feels like they really wanted to force a movie centered on the Void and Banana Barbara’s painting, where the family is trapped inside it but honestly, I think they should’ve just kept the show going with new seasons and new episodes until it naturally came to an end for whatever reason.

Discussion Is this 4 person friend group Gumball’s main guy friend group?

Thumbnail

These four seem like the most consistent male friend group in the show, or at least the most consistent MALE friend group Gumball is a part of. Is this a hot take? Strongest Evidence being especially in episodes The Pressure and also The Mother’s these four hanging out.

I haven’t seen Season 7 “ the reboot series” but in that one image I have up there in the episode The Distance, Darwin was hanging w Tobias and Banana Joe to help make a space for him and Gumball or something like that, so of all people he calls up those two which is interesting which shows Darwin considers them close guy friends and they care about Gumball. Besides each other it just seems like Gumball and Darwin hang and interact with Tobias and Banana Joe the most out of the other guys in school. Tobias and Banana Joe seem like best friends anyway they are seen together a lot as a duo.

Anyways I love when these four hang out, just seems like a good portal or a 4 person friend group, and I wish we got more of them together!

Hey, it's me again! :]

If you don't know me yet. I'm Kurt, the solo dev behind Lost & Found. It's an adventure-mystery game where the visuals are inspired by one of my childhood obsessions - The Amazing World of Gumball.

If you find the game interesting, you can support the development of the game by wishlisting it on Steam. Thanks everyone!

Discussion One of the most unpopular opinions about s5 in the fandom + an important question (long post)

The second half of season 5, while not as strong as the first half (which is obvious — it’s hard to top a stretch that includes some of the best episodes of the whole show), is still great and incredibly creative.

People CONSTANTLY (to the point where I think they’re just repeating the popular take) say that the second half is when the show started to go downhill so badly. That’s always seemed pretty strange to me, because there are still plenty of great episodes or individual segments with charm of previous seasons.

The Cycle was super interesting conceptually and executed pretty well.

The Diet, The Petals, The Deal, The Best, The Menu and The News definitely had some hilarious and memorable moments.

Most of The Singing was very creative and did a solid job reflecting the characters’ personalities (in my opinion, this episode is just as good as The Night, which it resembles a lot).

The Nuisance and The Heist (I’d add The Box from the first half to these) are some of the best episodes featuring the full family trying to solve a specific problem in their usual chaotic ways. They’re honestly no weaker than The Pizza or The Check.

The Ex was an important episode for Rob, and watching Gumball’s obsession was hilarious (complains that Gumball is super annoying in this episode feel kind of forced to me and just plain weird).

In my opinion, The List perfectly captures the creativity that made all of us fall in love with Gumball in the first place — taking something what seems like an obvious idea, reference, or joke setup and turning it into something totally unique, sweet, and hilarious. The Google Maps segment from that episode is still one of my favorites in the entire series.

The Puppets was a pretty solid season finale and technically the only crossover in the whole series (even if not a full one), which is pretty cool.

For me, season 5 is still pretty consistent in quality — it just has more mid episodes (even in the first half) than seasons 2 or 4. It’s still full of that early Gumball charm, but also has some good moments from season 6. I really wish more people loved and appreciated it as a whole thing.

So I’d like to know — what exactly about the second half do people see as the point where the show started to fall off? Too much obvious social commentary? Flanderization? A drop in joke or reference quality? Too much focus on changing animation styles? huge writting changes? (imo, those problems don’t really apply much to this season. CERTAINLY NOT to the degree they’re present in the last 10–15 episodes of season 6 or TWWWOG. Compared to them, season 5 is pure peak.)

What other reasons could there be for such reaction from the fandom?

(sorry for my english btw)

Discussion Why is Gumball the best character in the series?

I know a lot of people think Darwin is the best, or some other character, but for me it's Gumball, and I'll explain why. I remember Gumball being a character I loved when I first watched the show, mainly because he's so funny. I like how sarcastic he is, how mischievous, sweet, colorful, charismatic, generous, and talented he is at so many things. I love it when he appears, and I love his multifaceted personality; he always makes me smile. As for his personality, I'd say it feels more real. However, this character also has a problem: sometimes the writers mold him in a way that doesn't match his true personality in certain episodes, like in "The Fools" or "The Roast." And I don't like the other characters as much anymore, like Darwin, who I don't think is the best because he drives me crazy when he's so silly and naive, also because of some of the things he did in the series. I hope they continue to portray Gumball well in the upcoming episodes because I think he's a really interesting character.

Discussion What are some things you are hoping/wish to see in the future season 3 of TWWWOG*?

*no longer TAWOG,but for me it'll always be

Me:.

1.- Penny interacting with her mom in-law Nicole (Nicole does allow Gumball to have girlfriend, but we've never seen her and Nicole interact)

2.-More interactions with Nicole's parents (although they're so pedantic)

3.-More Gumball family (maybe great-grandparents?)

4.- Kpop (they already had NewJeans, sadly due to legal problems they can no longer release music so they're technically disbanded ☹️) like aespa or 2NE1,TWICE,i-dle

5.- More emotional and serious episodes not just lmao/potassium episodes

6.- More Yuki and Nicole beef jajaja

7.-Maybe a Deltarune reference? (I don't think since Deltarune is a niche game but it would be so iconic if it did)

8.-Penny meeting and interacting with Gumball's grandparents (and telling him about how pedantic they are xd)

9.- Classic Songs and musicians references like in The Singing

(Suggestions: Britney Spears, George Michael/Wham!, Gorillaz,Blondie<3)

10.- adult jokes (not too funky so censors don't k*I'll them) about Penball

Let's see if I can get one right

Discussion Season 3 voice change is so jarring

I just finished season 2 and played 2 mins of season 3 and the voice change was so off putting i couldn't even pay attention to the jokes I was just shocked. The voice acting, especially Darwin's, was one of my favourite parts of seasons 1 and 2 😭😭
