Even if the art is good, they say text can make-or-break a good design. What do you think about this? Is it sci-fi? Fantasy? Both?

Feedback Wanted Hand-painted book cover update: I hired a designer to make it more “adult”

So the last post I made was my dark Romantasy cover. It’s quite violent and not for kids, and the consensus seemed to be that the cover, whilst well painted, appeared a bit too whimsical for the intended audience. The font also seemed “off” to many people

So we added skulls and changed the font. Do you prefer before or after?

We've got a Kickstarter going for our first horror/western, and we've been playing with this cover. But for the comic shop release we'll be doing two covers, and we're not sure which is the strongest of the two.

Feedback Wanted Can I get honest opinions on the concept for my book cover?

Post image

I’m self-publishing my debut novel later this year and currently working with a design company on the cover. They’ve shared this concept with me, and I’m just not sure how I feel about it. Something feels off? Hoping to get honest opinions. Thank you!

For context: the book is an adult epic fantasy (with a side or romance!) following a fractured empire on the brink of war, where political unrest, ancient faith, and rising tensions with the long-forgotten and isolated fae begin pulling the world toward catastrophe. As old powers stir beyond the mountains, a blacksmith’s desperate lie and a duke’s struggle to hold his people together become tangled in something far larger than either of them realizes.

Feedback Wanted Webtoons Author looking to Publish a Book

I make a webcomic on webtoon called Netvor and above are some of the covers I've made for it. The webcomic is doing pretty well and I would like to one day indi publish the book its based on. I'm not married to the idea of doing my own cover, but I find it's more personal and I can really get my vision out accurately if I draw it myself.

What I'm wondering is how flexible are readers tastes for art styles in the romantasy genre? I usually see a lot of book covers in semi-realistic styles, and I'm worried the covers I currently design might be too cartoonish. Any ideas from readers/cover designers for how to better cater to the genre?

The genre is fantasy/romance with a bit of a darkness to it. Based on the fairytale Beauty and the Beast, preferably 13 years and up although I think the ideal range for the book is probably 15-35 year olds. Newest cover is first, oldest-last.

Feedback Wanted Feedback on fake cover?

Heya! It’s my first time posting on reddit, so I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing haha. I have no experience with illustration outside the confines of my iPad, but I’d love to try making a book cover for someone one day. I’ve started looking for fake book prompts to create some material to build a portfolio, but honestly, I have no idea what I’m doing. I would love some feedback, although I’d appreciate it if it was gentle. Going through a rough patch at my full time job I hate and feeling a lil on edge 🤪 I have lost all of my confidence in the last few months.

This was the prompt for the book:

Genre: YA Fantasy Romance Synopsis: A runaway girl falls through a portal to a realm where the stars are alive—and one falls in love with her. Cover direction: Girl gazing up at a glowing humanoid constellation reaching down to her. Style: Dreamy digital art, saturated purples and golds.

Granted, I took a bit of creative liberties with the “constellation”, but I hope it translates well enough. The anatomy seems off to me, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. I’m also not sure if I did a good enough job with the color palette provided, it looks fine on my iPad but muddy on my phone.

Any advice or constructive criticism is very welcome, and if anyone has any tips on how to get started in this industry I am all ears. I swear my job is slowly killing me.

Any thoughts or feedback you have to offer would be greatly appreciated.

It's a sci-fi comedy:
Vertebrae: A suggestible man discovers a talking skull and spine buried in his backyard and becomes obsessed with fulfilling a cosmic prophecy through a seductive process of degenerative self-improvement.

Just at the editing phase for a novella I’m writing. I commissioned a cover from GetCovers and they delivered on what I asked for but I think it gives the wrong vibes.

I did a few simple covers myself, text only, and wondered if they captured the dystopian vibe better, without the image.

Which would make you click to find out more, or do I need to go back to the drawing board?

Feedback Wanted Would love some critiques on my cover

After many failed attempts and hours of scrolling Pinterest for inspiration, I’ve finally made a cover that doesn‘t make me want to throw my screen across the room. Problem is, I’m not sure if it fits the genre I’m writing, so I’m asking what kind of impression it gives. Is it appealing at all? Is the font fine?
Also, I’m not a graphic designer, so I’d love some general design-related feedback too. Of course, it’s still unpolished, but I’d appreciate anything. Thank you 🙏

Feedback Wanted How do you feel about these colors?

I’m currently working on some book covers to update my portfolio since I want to design more horror, thriller and weird books. I found it really hard to pick a color for background, title but especially for the author’s name. What do you think about these color choices?

I have recently finished my book, Starborn of the Galaxy, which is a Young Adult (12-14) Sci-Fi/Fantasy novel that's a mix of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.

This is a cover made by a cover artist on Fiverr a while back: is this a good, professionally made cover? Would you be interested in a book with this cover?

This is a WIP of the cover for my Graphic Novel "Blade & Blood Magic", a Fantasy Action comic with LGBTQ+ Romance.

Edit: The Title design, text and placement is still a placeholder, it definitely needs some work!

Would you read this?

Looking for feedback on this commissioned Cover Art. I blocked out my name, which is what the black blob is at the bottom (still figuring out a pen name)

I appreciate it! Thanks!

Feedback Wanted Design critique wanted!

Made a post just a bit ago about wanting to learn more about cover design related to character art and was suggested to do a bunch of practice covers to build a possible portfolio. This is the design without text, because i know my typography will be horrifically lacking until i learn that aspect better, but this was designed with text placement in mind. Looking for feedback specifically on design elements and how well this would work as a front cover in general! Of course, this is practice by using alice in wonderland. All constructive feedback welcome! Thank you

Which cover do you like best? What would you change?

Thanks!

Feedback Wanted Would you click on this cover? Feedback for my thriller ebook “My Aunt Bertha”

Hey guys! I’m working on the cover for my ebook My Aunt Bertha and I’d really love some honest feedback before I publish it.

This is a story about family secrets, messy love, and the kind of summer that changes everything.

Mainly wondering:

  • Would this catch your attention?
  • What genre would you think it is?
  • Does it look like something you’d click on?

Any opinions are appreciated :)

Feedback Wanted Looking for second opinion!

Post image

I’m sorry if this is the wrong tag or place for this, I’m not a graphic designer (just the artist for the cover!) so I’d love to see what other people think? I’m getting someone to book bind this for me and I really only get one chance to get everything right, so would love some second opinions! Im loving the design so far, but a major thing for me is that I don’t like the pattern on the top and bottom and I want to get the perfect balance of ornate/decorative with the gold foil but not busy.

The elements here will be in gold foil, sorry for not mentioning this earlier!

Thank you so much for your help, please keep in mind that this is a WIP and things aren’t centred or perfect for now (art and graphic) so please don’t mention those :) thank you!

Feedback Wanted Which covers should I use for my series?

I am really stuck on this decision! I bought Option A first but second guessed (esp the first orange cover) & bought from a different artist for Option B, but I'm still conflicted on if I should scrap one or not. Would you use both (like a paperback/hardcover edition) or would you just keep one design, and which option would you choose? Thank you!

Feedback Wanted Hand painted my book cover, please be brutally honest. Should I pay for a designer instead?

It’s a fantasy with a heavy romance plotline. It’s not technically Romantasy because when it was on sub with my agent, publishers told us it wouldn’t work as a Romantasy because there weren’t the expected beats/the romance didn’t develop early enough basically. (And it died on sub)

I thought a hand painted cover would be cool and “unique” but now I am having second thoughts. Especially about the bird…and the tower…….and basically everything except the moon lmao

Give it to me straight guys. (I know my name is missing from this version, I’ll add it later)
