Gus and Lyle

I just finished season 5, episode 4 "Namaste" for like the fourth time. I read somewhere that the reason Gus was so nitpicky about the cleanliness of the fryers was a way to punish Lyle for questioning Gus a few times when he told the staff to leave when Hector and the boys came to the restaurant. Personally I think Gus was just preoccupied waiting for the call about the DEA getting his money and arresting some dealers. Am I wrong?

How did Jimmy explain how he made it to Omaha Nebraska without ratting-out Ed the Disappearer?

I always wondered about how Jimmy explained to the police/prosecutors how he came to be out there on the other side of the country with a whole new identity.

Mike prequel series

Obviously, this is something that would never happen. But I'd be curious as to who you would cast as a younger Mike Ehrmantraut, maybe during his cop days in Philly?

I honestly have no idea who I would cast, but would love to see your suggestions!

This is likely how Gus got cell signal to Nacho in S5E10 to communicate the orders.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_cell_sites

So I wanted to share this cause I find it really interesting, and I've seen people ask this but it's too late to reply to those posts, but this is likely how they got Nacho the cell phone signal to Nacho.

I've seen people say it was likely a booster, but my bet is he used a Mobile Cell Site which can be connected to a microwave satellite phone network and transmit to cell phones using existing cellular network specifications to get temporary service to areas that otherwise wouldn't have any.

I think it can cover miles if you have line of sight with the device so they probably just parked a mile or two from Lalos home so his guards wouldn't see a thing.

Trying to find a specific scene

It was early Jimmy because of his brown suit. He was at the top of the staircase and he looked down then he takes a quick look around him and puts on a laugh and starts going down the staircase quickly chatting with the other people on the staircase as he descends.

Lyle and Gustavo

Don’t get me wrong but what kind of relationship between these two? I feel like Lyle has a thing for Gustavo.

It’s not a big deal but I always wonder.

Got questions 🫨

I recently finished watching "Better call saul" and I have questions, might be basic but they're lingering in my head

  1. Did jimmy really feel guilty about doctoring those documents and insinuate the bar about chuck and being the reason he offed himself or was he really that stoic about it and blame howard for it.

  2. Why did kim hate howard so much, when jimmy was really hesitant about destroying howard's career .

3.( A really silly one) how does lalo sympathize so much for his housekeepers and guards but gave zero fu*** about the man that got killed in the wire or others in general .

If Chuck wanted what was best for the law why didn’t he just straight up confront Jimmy about not liking his methods?

Upvotes

What did he think would happen if he did? Did he think that Jimmy would just lie more? It just seems like there was not a conversation where he tried to hold his brother accountable. Even if he lied when confronted, that at least gives him data instead of him making assumptions.

Also, would confessing that he had been Slippin’ Jimmy have changed things, or would it have just given Chuck ammunition to hold things over him? It just seems like Chuck wants Jimmy to be sentenced to death or something

Theory: Gus's ability to hide his true self and his crimes comes from having to hide his homosexuality in Chile.

In both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Gus is shown to be a master at disguise and deception.

In private, he is cold and psychopathic: he remorselessly ordered Mike to kill Werner, he brutally killed his long-time henchman Victor just to send a message to Walt and Jesse, and he is strongly implied to have ordered the murder of a young boy. However, in public, Gus is able to fully mask the darkness within him. He is extremely kind and pleasant to everyone, and even hosts charity events and fundraisers for the police and the DEA. His disguise is so flawless that no one suspects a thing about him.

Imo, his ability to hide his true self could very well originate from the need to hide his homosexuality. Gus spent his childhood years in 1960s Chile, a deeply conservative society where homosexuality was illegal. This worsened when Augusto Pinochet took power in 1973, when Gus was ~15. Queer individuals were subject to violent repression during this time, and were even sometimes sent to state detention camps. Because of this, Gus would've had to hide his homosexuality at all times in order to avoid the rampant social and legal consequences that would come if he came out or was caught having relations with a man.

Another thing worth mentioning is that despite the immense repression under Pinochet, it was during this time that the first queer organizations in Chile emerged, though their activities were of course carried out in secrecy. If Gus was involved in an underground organization like this in any capacity, this would've given him experience concealing not just his own illegal activities, but those of an entire group. This experience would've helped him immensely when he eventually became a drug distributor for the cartel, as he would've once again had to avoid the ever-present eye of the government. It's already implied that he held a role in Pinochet's government/military, so maybe he was double dipping as a public oppressor and secret liberator, or maybe he started out as a liberator but eventually became an oppressor.

In conclusion, Gus has such a good ability to hide his true self and his criminal activities because imo, he's been doing it his entire life.

What is your favourite one of Chuck's 'electromagnetic hypersensitivity' moments in the show?

For me it's the newspaper theft scene in Season 1. The editing with his neighbors point of view added afterwards is just hilarious.

What if Jimmy hadn't gotten disbarred?

I know a lot of time we're looking at this as an inevitable spiral, but when I look at his time disbarred I really realize that that's when things really took a turn.

that's when he switched from elder law to "personal injury" and defending slimebags, that's when he made his criminal networks, that's when he started practicing as "saul goodman".

I think if he stayed in the office of wexler and McGill doing elder law things don't go dark. Sure chicanery stuff still goes down, he does some crazy things, but I think it stays in the service of "good" outcomes (like protecting the old guy's house, taking down groups like sandpiper, etc.) rather than supporting drug empires and getting criminals out of jail.

That year off is when he went from "unorthodox lawyer with a rambunctious style" to "criminal lawyer"

Worst thing Saul has done Spoiler

Light spoiler for anyone who hasn’t seen the show

I’m on season 3 episode 9 and I think out of all the scandals “Saul” has pulled, turning everyone against Irene felt so heartbreaking to me lol. Obviously he has done/will do worse but damn seeing her cry and run from bingo hurt 😂

First time watching btw so try not to spoil 🙏 I have seen breaking bad though

Kim to Lalo: Get Your Sh!t Together Spoiler

A favorite Kim scene with good reason. One little tweak I would make: stop the menacing music once Kim says her piece, then Lalo subtly looks down thinking about what she said. He’s clearly humbled, though still trying to look tough, before he walks away.

S3E10 was really a watershed moment for the whole BCS saga

Re-watching some clips recently and one thing really struck me was the tone of the show before and after that episode. Let's talk about this from the perspective of the two protagonists of the first portion of BCS.

Before this episode, Jimmy saw and dealt very little with the criminal underworld of Albuquerque. It was all seniors/baby-boomers, high society, boutique law firms and dealings with his brother Chuck. He went into corporate meetings, dealt with annoying interns, did all sorts of things to get clients for his senior law business etc. Kim was similarly trying to find her way in HHM. Things seem to be shaping up (at certain points) to be a real law-firm drama or Jimmy McGill's career ascent as a lawyer. Everything was (relatively) sunshine and butterflies

On Mike's end, he seemed to be going around being involved in or doing side missions from time to time. There was a hint that something big was coming (his eventual partnering with Gus) but it was always something that happened in the background. There was no Lalo coming in like a wrecking ball - let's face it, Hector was not nearly the threat level his nephew brought in. Everything was drearier, aimless and goalless, which i suppose was the point the show runners wanted to portray. I think the scene where he was munching nuts while waiting for the person who planted the tracking device on his gas cap to appear really epitomizes this part of the show.

And then in S3E10, Chuck died and Hector got a stroke and suddenly a) Jimmy found himself descending deeper and deeper into his Saul alter ego while b) Lalo's arrival kickstarted the entire second arc of the BCS story line which will see its grim conclusion 3 seasons later.

Sorry if this was obvious to everyone but I really wanted to say how much I liked this structure.

I can't stop watching Tuco vs Mike

It's just so good. The actors have so much charisma, and there is something about knowing 2 characters for many years and you finally get to see them interact.

There is just so much going on. Mike pretending to be senile "are you talking to me??". And in the end removing his mask, showing Tuco the real Mike.

With Nacho playing along, Tuco trying to stay calm having inner conflict about a soft sport for elderly people, yet still throwing zingers like "Lol check out Mr. Magoo here!".

Am I overrating this scene or is it that good.

Why was Davis and Main so focused on protocols and procedures?

It seemed like no matter what Jimmy did they always had a problem with how he did it. They were always saying they can't do this or it was a good idea but we have to follow procedures and it's like you can just ignore that but they wouldn't listen to him
