Reddit admins, how much time do you spend daily lurking on Reddit?

Far more than I'd want to say but I did already spend a significant amount of time on reddit before I was hired.

In my free time I moderate a subreddit I started several years before working here: r/FreeEBOOKS. Reading is good for you, go find something.

Not really - it tends to be pretty unexciting, people come to look at books and then go. Trolls are very rare.

You....probably shouldnt have said that

36

u/DoktoroKiu Apr 24 '19

That was him flexing

27

u/the_fuego Apr 24 '19

Weird flex but ok.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '19

Incoming Shadowban for him

7

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '19

Wait can admins choose to make their username red at will

10

u/Ninjahkin Apr 24 '19

Guess so. Must be kind of like if some divine entity came to earth, they know they’d freak everyone out in their raw form. Gotta wear a disguise to keep the peace

2

u/Pfoenix Apr 24 '19

Mods can submit a post as mod or as normal user. So I guess admins can do the same.

2

u/FivesG Apr 24 '19

That’s freaky, you can just make the admin flair and color go away as you please. The admins could be any one of us...even me.

1

u/mahloldheeb Apr 24 '19

Why is your name not red anymore?

5

u/Chtorrr Apr 24 '19

It’s only red if I make it that way.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '19

That’s a major flex.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '19

Thanks! I literally just finished my degree today and I am so excited to free read again!! I was on the search for great material :)

31

u/iAmZel Apr 23 '19

Thank you <3

pat pat

u/flugsibinator Apr 23 '19

You missed the opportunity to combine the E to make FreEbooks. But I'll let it slide this time.

15

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '19

Ooh, this looks like something I’d be into! Also, this is the single most incredible shameless plug I’ve ever seen, and I’ve done some wacky shit with my fellow retards at r/WeEatBees. join that btw and u/TheAstonishingMage id tell you to suck a dick but you’re a virgin lmao

8

u/Youre-mum Apr 23 '19

FREE EBOOKS I’m going to leave a comment here so I can come back to that subreddit later

13

u/Ithinkandstuff Apr 23 '19

Or you could just subscribe to the sub?

2

u/Youre-mum Apr 24 '19

I did but I’m subscribed to a lot of subs so that doesn’t help me

4

u/C6H12O6-Cube Apr 24 '19

Oh hey, me too.

We just talked about r/FreeEBOOKs today lol.

.xyz domains amirite?

3

u/2girls2night Apr 23 '19

Does Reddit have any internship program?

3

u/ibettershutupagain Apr 23 '19

Love this sub thanks!!

3

u/RogerThatKid Apr 23 '19

Hey I recently wrote a short story and it's for sale on Amazon. How can I offer it for free on that subreddit? (I don't want it to be free for everyone, just for folks on here.)

3

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '19

You guys get paid?

3

u/Jlacosse6082 Apr 24 '19

How did you go about becoming a Reddit admin?

5

u/BreadThatsToast Apr 23 '19

why the FUCK did you quarantine r/waterniggas ? we just wanted to make sure reddit was hydrated

5

u/Sunburnedtoast Apr 23 '19

Daaamn that's been my favourite sub of late

2

u/gammyalways Apr 23 '19

Agreed... why??? I love r/waterniggas

5

u/ZellmerFiction Apr 23 '19

Holy crap that’s beautiful. I love you. Don’t make it weird and definitely don’t tell my wife. But this is definitely love.

2

u/Xenaudine Apr 23 '19

Cool, thanks! I didn’t know this sub exists.

2

u/your_mind_aches Apr 23 '19

You Reddited your way into emailing famous people('s publicists), you must be doing something right!

2

u/conh0 Apr 23 '19

Great sub! Thanks for posting it here.

2

u/AliceDuMerveilles Apr 23 '19

I can't find the concentration and time to read these but I enjoy seeing them in my feed! Thank you.

2

u/joec85 Apr 23 '19

How many new subs have you gotten since posting that? I subbed just now.

1

u/Chtorrr Apr 24 '19

I think around 3,000 so far

2

u/defacedlawngnome Apr 23 '19

What if I spend all day reading redditors' comments? That's gotta count for something, right?

Admins are reddit employees - we are hired much like other jobs.

2

u/zactheepic Apr 24 '19

What do you guys even do all day? Genuinely interested.

2

u/Chtorrr Apr 24 '19

It depends on what job someone has - I set up AMAs so I read and send a lot of emails for a large part of the day. I also spend a good bit of time talking to moderators about setting up AMAs in their communities.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '19

That’s a lot of karma you have there

2

u/heraldoftheplague Apr 24 '19

yooooooo ive never seen one of you before

2

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '19

Than you I love you

2

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '19

Gotta love reading. I get insulted at school on a nearly daily basis for liking to read. Only the few friends I made in my advanced classes like reading but they are more likeable according to everyone else, even though I have literally the same personality as them, if not a little worse plus a fast temper. Speed reading on vacations is my favorite. I finish books so much faster on trips for some reason, probably because I know that I'm going to have limited time to read each time and want to get more done.

Edit: MINOR INSULTS, NOT REALLY BULLYING

2

u/Vigilante17 Apr 24 '19

Do you know where I could find free audio book recommendations? I recently started driving a bit more and forgot how much I like listening to books while driving. Podcasts get boring at a certain point compared to a great book on tape.

2

u/garnteller Apr 24 '19

Hey! You were at the Minneapolis Mod party! It was great hanging with you. And for the record, I don’t remember you checking in on Reddit once during the party!

2

u/CornToothSmile Apr 24 '19

FreeEBooks..thanks for the sub!

2

u/1eho101pma Apr 24 '19

So how do you get hired in the first place? Is it just because they saw you be a good mod or is it like a formal interview type thing? Do you have like an HQ you go to for this or do you sit around doing admin stuff?

2

u/farhad1995 Apr 24 '19

is it true that reddit admins have infinite silver/golds/platinums?

2

u/Chtorrr Apr 24 '19

This is indeed true

2

u/jeoxs Apr 24 '19

It must be pretty good to say "I work at Reddit!". That's something to be proud of, really!

2

u/djmuffinfist Apr 24 '19

Sweet, about to check out the books you got on there.

2

u/bringbackmoistymire Apr 24 '19

Reading is good for you, go find something

...b-but I found this.

2

u/Alfa20megaOO7 Apr 24 '19

Thanks for the link to sub!

2

u/LadyChelseaFaye Apr 24 '19

Thank you. Two things I like. Free and books. It’s my major addiction. Books.

2

u/Bilalelh Apr 24 '19

Hey can we have r/waterniggas back I need motivation for hydration.

1

u/quasimojoe Apr 23 '19

So you do get paid?

3

u/Chtorrr Apr 23 '19

I do indeed get paid - reddit is my job. r/FreeEBOOKS is not my job though, it's more of a hobby.

2

u/quasimojoe Apr 23 '19

Lemme get a job pls

1

u/HowlingRoar Apr 24 '19

How does one go about getting a job at reddit?

2

u/Chtorrr Apr 24 '19

It is like many other jobs - you apply for open positions: https://www.redditinc.com/careers

1

u/trimmer99 Apr 24 '19

How does one get hired to be a reddit admin? Just curious

2

u/Chtorrr Apr 24 '19

The jobs board is a good place to start: https://www.redditinc.com/careers

1

u/TheEzypzy Apr 24 '19

Happy Snoo day!

1

u/dark_lady42 Apr 24 '19

“I am a mod and I lurk, but in my free time I also mod and lurk.”
The most honest person on Reddit, ladies and gentlemen.

Also I subbed your free books.
