awwww I'm sorry :( I know that it probably doesn't mean much, but you sound like an amazing person and it's entirely Carleton's loss. I bet wherever you end up will be a good fit :)

Omg yay that’s awesome!! I hope your able to get it! Graduating debt free is always great!
And I don’t know if you need to move out because of a queerphobic family, but from another queer person, I hope that everything works out and that you can get out of your household (if that’s what you need). If you ever need someone to talk to I’m here :)

Felt the same, I really loved Carleton and I got rejected :( I was stuck between them and two other schools for where I'd commit in May. At least the decision will be a bit easier I guess but it still really hurts

it's just the thing happening all over a2c. whenever someone comments they got in or put on waitlist, it gets downvoted to hell... prolly by some butthurt rejects.

Waitlist Info from 2020 cds, because I’m freaking out
Applied 6872. Accepted 1460.
Waitlisted 1325, of which 603 accepted a place in line.
In the end, 76 waitlisted kids were admitted
So waitlisted people were from top 21% to top 40% of applicants, and 12.6% of those were admitted!

8k applicants this year fml
4
u/ratsRgreat Feb 02 '21
According to Niche, they usually have 7,300 applicants. So I think that’s a 10% increase. Not as awful as some colleges at least.

What's this virtual bubble wrap; I want some!
I haven't been getting any emails from Carleton other than portal information. :(
6
Mar 13 '21
dw not getting an email doesn't mean anything. they basically told us the decision date and shared some cool stuff to do while we wait to hear back. Some of them are:
virtual bubble wrap: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/62624316/remixes/
cosmos: https://vimeo.com/22439234
home cooking: http://www.willitblend.com/videos/glow-sticks
go for a run at the arb: https://youtu.be/qhN259C5J6s

I know it's literally March 1st, but does anybody have any idea as to when they're gonna release decisions? I know they said "by April 1st," but I'm assuming they're gonna release decisions earlier than that...
2
u/arandomkidfromnepal HS Senior | International Mar 02 '21
Not sure how helpful this is but since they released decisions on March 20th last year, I guess it'll probably be a bit later than that this year, given the applications increase?

u/RoseUpPdx Prefrosh Mar 09 '21
I'm sure you saw already, but they just sent out an email saying March 18th @ 8 pm CST

I think maybe it’s just that more people from Minnesota apply, like st olaf
3
u/CarletonMDs Mar 13 '21 edited Mar 13 '21
Theoretically, Minnesota applicants are at a disadvantage. Carleton caps Minnesota admissions numbers so that Minnesota students never exceed a certain percentage of the incoming class. The incoming number used to always be below the cap anyway, so in most years I don’t think it comes into play.
Edit: a word

Desperately need to get off the waitlist but I'm an international student asking for very high aid. My hopes are both low and high at the same time. Does anyone know by when (what date) they'd start contacting you to offer a spot?
Best of luck to everyone else that got waitlisted!

What is going ONNN i thought we were supposed to hear from them this week!! Cant tell if the long wait for info is good or bad
4
u/zausten HS Senior May 20 '21
Just got an email from admissions that they’re releasing more information about the waitlist in an email at 8pm CST today. Pretty easy to assume what that means.. but staying positive!!

accepted, and extremely excited! I have a quick question ab financial aid if anyone's willing to help out. is the "total awarded" section the amount of money/aid they're giving me per year? I'm confused because at the top there's a section that says estimated cost and then a section at the bottom that says "total awarded" and another that says "estimated balance?" I just want to make sure I have the meanings of these values figured out, because they are very different numbers!
→ More replies (1)4
u/Less-Lavishness7298 Mar 20 '21
the total award is the amount they are giving you this year and the estimated cost is also the cost for this academic year. The estimated balance is the remaining amount you're supposed to pay this year after financial aid. Hope this helps

Anyone here who was accepted but won't be attending?
Trying to get off the waitlist :)
→ More replies (1)3
u/a12435 College Senior Mar 27 '21
Probably won't be attending! (Carleton didn't give me nearly enough money, plus I have other amazing, affordable options)
Good luck getting off the waitlist. Carleton is a great school and it hurts to have to turn it down

u/pumpkin_noodles College Junior May 04 '21
I emailed them about the waitlist, and they said they won’t be sure until next week if they’ll go to the waitlist, but they will let me know either way

I got off of the waitlist before May 1st after writing two very long LOCIs. Write them!! Write multiple!!! Keep updating them on what you've been doing, any independent work you've been doing in quarantine, how your academics are going, and how excited you are about Carleton. It feels pushy af I know, but it really does help. Very best of luck!!!
2
May 18 '21
Oh wow, congrats! I wrote only one LOCI, but I submitted it kind of last minute because I was nervous. I know sometimes colleges don't like it when you keep emailing them stuff, but I guess if it worked for you, it's worth a shot!
I hope they're still using the waitlist.

Waitlisted, 4.21 WGPA, 36 ss ACT. Did Carleton care about a lot about demonstrated interest?
4
u/WordEmergency Mar 19 '21
I’m not sure. I had similar stats and never requested an interview, never did any virtual tours or campus events, never contacted any AO’s, etc. and was accepted. I think my essays were probably the best part of my application, so maybe they heavily emphasize those?

u/The81stFriend HS Senior Mar 19 '21
I think LACs tend to be "fit based", so they might just think you'd be better off at a more competitive school with a 36. That's sort of my speculation for my waitlist because I feel like my essays and ECs were strong for Carleton. I guess it's hard to know for sure but regardless a 36 is something to be proud of on its own right :)

Accepted with something called the Cowling Scholarship and good aid!!! I thought I had no chance since I didn't do an interview, but I guess I was wrong! :D
Congrats to all that got in, and good luck to those on the waitlist and those waiting to hear from other schools!!

Hi, if I did not apply for financial aid but was given some kind of merit scholarship, where can I access that? I believe that financial aid at Carleton is need based but I just wanted to make sure that I have seen every documents. It does not say anywhere that I got any type of scholarship on the acceptance letter, so does that mean that I didn’t get anything? Thanks in advance.
