This reminds me of my ex, we are both guys. Same sex marriage wasn’t legal yet, and I just wanted the ceremony without the legal part. He said he promised himself he wouldn’t get married until it counted legally. So when it became legal I proposed, and that’s when he changed the goal post and said it had to be legal worldwide. That’s when I realized he just didn’t want to be married. Now I’m married very happily to someone else.

That’s the most ridiculous goal post shift I’ve ever heard 😬

Well after being worldwide, it has to be galaxy wide, so that even aliens must accept gay mariage....

And aliens are famously extremely homophobic, so tough titty on that one.

You'd think they'd be more open to it with all the probing...

Even the hermaphroditic aliens.

Reminds me of this skit where the one didn’t want to marry so was using gay marriage as an excuse.

Good on you for moving on, that was a goal they knew full well would never happen.

Fucking world wide?!? That will NEVER happen. There are countries and cultures that won’t allow it. Hell there are places that you can be jailed or worse executed for being queer. I’m glad you got away from him.

Wtf? He should have talked it out if he had 'trauma' regarding marriage. I can't imagine why he would turn down the ceremony if he loves you.

Most common reasons are about alimony/property. Which isn't the case with you guys at first.

And, same sex marriage becoming legal all over the world? Lol! Is he smart? Does he even know how many countries there are, lol?

Yeah, I'll hold my breath until the Vatican has same-sex marriage.

OK so feel free to ignore me but did you think your ex was moving the goalpost because he wanted to have easy way out of the relationship if things got difficult compare to being in a marriage where it's more difficult.

Possibly. I did find out after the fact that he had been cheating on me towards the end of the relationship though. He wasn’t the sharpest nail in the box.

It had to be legal worldwide?

That's the biggest goalpost shift I have ever seen.

And an outright impossibility.

What a scumbag.
